Job Description

About Vitestro

Founded in 2017 in Utrecht, Vitestro is pioneering the future of blood collection with the Aletta® Autonomous Robotic Phlebotomy Device™ (ARPD™). This groundbreaking medical device combines advanced multi-modal imaging (near-infrared, ultrasound, and Doppler ultrasound) with robotics and AI to perform the entire diagnostic blood draw procedure autonomously.

By addressing critical healthcare staffing shortages and improving patient experience, Vitestro is transforming one of the most common and essential medical procedures. With more than 90 team members and growing rapidly, we are scaling our impact. As we placed our first devices with customers, we are now expanding our team to ensure successful implementation and long-term reliability.

At Vitestro, we are committed to continuous innovation and improvement.

Join us as our new Reliability Test Engineer!

As our Reliability Test Engineer, you play a key role in defining and driving the reliability and verification strategy of our autonomous blood drawing system. You focus on how critical device functions behave over time and under stress, and translate this into scalable, structured test architectures and methodologies.

You operate at the intersection of systems, software, and mechanical engineering, designing and evolving reliability test frameworks for a complex medical device that includes a 6-DOF robotic positioning system. We are looking for a Reliability Test Engineer who excels at defining test conditions, developing test protocols, and applying industry-standard reliability testing methodologies.

First months at Vitestro

In your first months, your focus will be on gaining a deep understanding of how key device functions are currently tested for reliability and how existing test setups operate.

You will take ownership of defining improvements to the test approach, ensuring setups are robust, scalable, and aligned with system-level reliability goals. You will work closely with cluster representatives and R&D engineers to identify gaps in current testing and introduce structured methods to address them.

You will analyze test data to identify failure modes and reliability risks, while influencing how data is collected, structured, and shared across teams. You'll also take ownership of keeping reliability tests running smoothly and reliably, day in, day out. On top of that, you'll help shape the future of test tooling and infrastructure, including Python-based frameworks that support the system release process.

This is what your success look like

After 12 months, reliability testing at Vitestro is no longer just operational, but strategic, scalable, and deeply integrated into product development.

Test architectures are clearly defined, setups are robust and future-proof, and reliability insights are consistently used to drive design decisions. Test results are traceable, actionable, and aligned with system-level requirements.

You have become a go-to technical authority for reliability and testing, guiding engineering teams in designing for testability and identifying risks early. You actively influence system design and contribute to improving overall product robustness and quality.

Your work directly contributes to the safe and reliable deployment of our system in clinical environments.

You bring a hands-on yet strategic mindset and thrive in a multidisciplinary environment where hardware and software come together.

Requirements

Must-have’s:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied science or higher

  • 5–10 years of experience in testing and validation of high-tech systems

  • Proven experience in defining test strategies, architectures, or frameworks (not only executing tests)

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, structure, and resolve complex technical issues

  • Experience in collecting, structuring, and interpreting test data to support system-level reliability assessments

  • Experience with test automation and tooling (Python or similar)

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to align multiple stakeholders

  • Fluent in English

Nice to have’s:

  • Experience with testing robotic systems, mechatronics systems, and/or medical devices

  • Familiarity with regulated environments (e.g. medical device development)

  • Experience with test infrastructure design (e.g. HIL/SIL setups, simulation environments)

  • Mentoring or leading other engineers

  • Flexible and open mindset, with an “I will make it work” mentality

What we offer

  • Competitive salary including pension plan

  • 25 days of annual leave based on a full-time position

  • Hybrid work model

  • Working together in a high-skilled team with our home base in Utrecht

  • Frequent out-of-work activities with our team, and annual company weekend away.

  • Training budget

  • Opportunity to be key shaper of a new global industry niche: autonomous medical robotics

We’re big fans of working from the office – this is where team spirit comes alive. At the same time, we offer flexibility, allowing up to two (out of 5) days of working from home for those who prefer it.

We offer an environment where you can make a lot of impact, as you are joining a growing scale-up in MedTech. Our team of driven and talented colleagues enjoys solving the challenges in developing, manufacturing, and completing our breakthrough medical device. While working in an open culture, we strive for excellence in all domains. We believe in taking courage and like to challenge each other. We learn and teach, regardless of age, nationality or gender.

Are you excited?

We totally understand that and so are we! By joining us, you can play an active role in changing the future of health care. Excited to join our revolution? Then we’d love to hear from you!

If you think you've got what it takes, but you don't meet all the requirements - we still recommend you apply. We would love to learn about your interest and experience, and consider if you can be a good fit for Vitestro. Nobody is a perfect fit, and we welcome applications with imperfections. We offer a learning environment where we grow together!
