
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for identifying applicable standards and test methods, developing reliability qualification plans, coordinating reliability testing, supporting failure analysis, and preparing customer-ready reliability data packages for advanced thermal management products.
Lead and manage reliability test planning and execution for semiconductor packaging, liquid cold plates, T800 Thermadite, CVD diamond, thermal spreaders, embedded cooling structures, and related thermal assemblies.
Identify appropriate industry standards, customer specifications, and qualification methods through technical research, benchmarking, and direct engagement with customers.
Develop product- and application-specific qualification plans where standard test methods may not fully exist or directly apply.
Translate customer use conditions, package requirements, liquid cooling requirements, and expected failure mechanisms into reliability test plans and acceptance criteria.
Support reliability test methods including thermal cycling, thermal shock, high-temperature exposure, humidity, corrosion, pressure cycling, leak testing, coolant compatibility, mechanical fatigue, and bond/interface reliability.
Coordinate with internal engineering, quality, operations, customers, suppliers, and external labs on qualification strategy, test methods, sample sizes, success criteria, and reporting format.
Support failure analysis efforts and translate findings into design recommendations, process controls, corrective actions, and customer-facing conclusions.
Support customer technical reviews, reliability reporting, qualification readiness reviews, and product scale-up decisions.
Education & Experience
Minimum 5–7 years of experience in reliability engineering, product qualification, semiconductor packaging, electronics cooling, advanced materials, liquid cooling, or related technical fields.
BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, or equivalent technical degree.
Experience with accelerated life testing, failure analysis, customer qualification, new product introduction, and application of industry or customer-specific reliability standards is preferred.
Experience with JEDEC, IPC, ASTM, SEMI, MIL-STD, or other applicable reliability and qualification standards is preferred.
Skills
Technical capability to define reliability test plans, identify failure mechanisms, and support qualification of new product platforms.
Strong interpersonal, teaming, and problem-solving skills.
Work effectively with other members of Coherent Corp. across R&D, engineering, manufacturing, quality, operations, product management, applications engineering, supply chain, and commercial teams.
Strong technical judgment in reliability testing, materials behavior, thermal-mechanical stress, liquid cooling assemblies, and package-level qualification.
Ability to research standards, assess customer requirements, and create practical qualification plans for new technologies.
Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to internal teams, customers, suppliers, and external test labs.
Working Conditions
Office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments.
Travel may be required to Coherent sites, suppliers, external labs, and customer locations.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use standard office and computer equipment.
May occasionally access production areas, laboratories, test equipment, and reliability test setups.
Safety Requirements
