As a Reliability Engineer, reporting to the Engineering Leads, you will join our vibrant and growing Kirby and Jackfish Thermal Facilities site, and be part of a diverse team, responsible for providing technical support to enhance plant safety, reliability, operability and performance. You will play a key role in the development and maintenance of our reliability programs that will continue to deliver top tier plant uptime, while being fit for purpose and cost effective. This role provides an opportunity to influence and lead others in the pursuit of improving organizational reliability and culture, and mentor Engineers and Engineer-in-Training (EIT)’s rotating through the EIT Development Program.

  • Shift schedule: 4 x 3, 10-hour shifts

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to maximize the reliability and availability of rotating equipment within the Jackfish/Kirby area, as well as track reliability performance and evaluate the effectiveness of reliability programs against established goals
  • Develop, optimize, and monitor predictive maintenance programs (Condition Based Monitoring, CBM) for rotating equipment to improve asset performance including:
    • Vibration monitoring of rotating equipment
    • Oil sampling and ultrasonic greasing of rotating equipment
    • PdMa, thermography and ultrasonic monitoring of electrical equipment
  • Develop, optimize, and monitor corrective maintenance programs including effective equipment sparring strategies, critical spares procurement/storage, and on-line spare equipment rotation strategies
  • Work together with other teams to lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations into critical equipment failures, ensuring corrective actions are clearly defined and implemented
  • Monitor day-day process/equipment operational issues and developing initiatives to prevent re-occurring failure events “bad actors” that lead to high maintenance costs
  • Develop, optimize, and monitor Preventative Maintenance (PM) programs ensuring continuous improvement
  • Develop MOC packages to implement equipment & process upgrades related to equipment reliability

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, and registered, or eligible for registration as a P. Eng in Alberta
  • 5+ years of related industry experience with a minimum of 2+ years in an operating facility
  • Continuous improvement mindset and experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies and strategies, ideally certified as a Lean Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt
  • Previous experience with rotating and static equipment, vibration monitoring, lubrication programs and PM development is preferred
  • Proficient working knowledge of CMMS systems (Maximo preferred), PI data historian, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, troubleshooting, collaboration, task prioritization, and verbal/written communication skills
