Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic and commercially driven Relationship Manager – Chinese Desk to develop and manage relationships with Chinese corporates, investors, entrepreneurs, and other Chinese-speaking clients. The role will be responsible for growing the Bank’s Chinese client portfolio by identifying business opportunities, deepening existing relationships, and delivering tailored banking solutions that meet clients’ financial and business needs.

The successful candidate will serve as a key link between the Bank and the Chinese business community, leveraging strong relationship management, business development, and market knowledge to drive growth across deposits, lending, trade finance, payments, and other relevant banking solutions.

Functions & Responsibilities

  1. Develop and maintain strong relationships with Chinese corporates, business owners, investors, and other strategic clients.
  2. Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the Chinese business community and relevant market segments.
  3. Grow the portfolio through acquisition of new customers and deepening of existing relationships.
  4. Drive growth in assets, deposits, trade finance, foreign exchange, payments, and other banking products in line with assigned targets.
  5. Understand clients’ business models, financial needs, investment plans, and industry dynamics to provide appropriate banking solutions.
  6. Act as a trusted relationship partner and primary point of contact for assigned Chinese clients.
  7. Develop and execute client acquisition and portfolio growth plans in line with the Bank’s business strategy.
  8. Collaborate with Credit, Trade Finance, Treasury, Operations, Risk, Compliance, and other internal teams to deliver seamless client solutions.
  9. Support the onboarding of new clients while ensuring compliance with the Bank’s KYC, AML, credit, and other regulatory requirements.
  10. Monitor portfolio performance, identify emerging risks, and proactively address client or portfolio-related issues.
  11. Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, call reports, financial information, and other required relationship documentation.
  12. Conduct regular client visits and business reviews to identify opportunities for relationship deepening and cross-selling.
  13. Represent the Bank at relevant business forums, networking events, and engagements involving the Chinese business community.
  14. Build and maintain a strong network with Chinese business associations, investors, corporates, and other relevant stakeholders.
  15. Work closely with product and sales teams to generate leads and maximize opportunities across the Bank.
  16. Ensure high levels of client satisfaction and contribute to the overall customer experience.
  17. Maintain strong knowledge of the Tanzanian banking environment, regulatory requirements, and sectors in which Chinese businesses operate.

Requirements

Qualification

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Marketing, or a related field.

Professional Membership

Professional banking or finance certification will be an added advantage.

Minimum Experience

  1. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in corporate banking, commercial banking, relationship management, business banking, or a related banking environment.
  2. Experience managing Chinese corporate clients or working with Chinese businesses/investors will be a strong advantage.
  3. Strong understanding of the Tanzanian business and banking environment.
  4. Mandarin/Chinese language proficiency will be highly advantageous, particularly for candidates engaging directly with Chinese-speaking clients.
