Position Type: Full Time

Position Summary:
Under general supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation, accomplishes the Rehabilitation Department’s strategic objectives by planning, organizing, and executing the assigned functions required to operate and maintain departmental activities and services. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
•    Comply with implementation and communication of goals and objectives for the department.
•    Comply with laws, regulations, and standards of practice including Joint Commission Accreditation.
•    Assist with treatment of patients of all ages using the knowledge, principles, and practices of Rehabilitation Technician under direct supervision of Evaluating Therapist.
•    Assist therapist in coordinating and arranging treatment rooms for patients.
•    Obtain equipment, materials and supplies from storage area and position them appropriately to use for therapy.
•    Sanitize all equipment and treatment areas after each use.
•    Change linen on treatment tables, mats, and prepare them for next use.
•    Order and stock linen daily for treatment rooms.
•    Order and stock therapy supplies as needed and/or requested by clinical staff.
•    Clean and maintain treatment and exercise areas daily.
•    Check on patients during treatments to ensure that they are safe and comfortable.
•    Perform treatment with certain modalities such as hot/cold packs under direct supervision of a licensed therapist.
•    Translate for non-Navajo speaking therapist or provider as requested.
•    Position patients comfortably, assist with guarding patients during ambulation and/or gait training utilizing appropriate assistive devices indicated by licensed therapist including gait belt.
•    Assist patients who have difficulty with mobility to ensure safety to and from vehicle as appropriate/needed to support licensed therapist.
•    Assist in transferring patients in wheelchairs to other departments as needed.
•    Attend and take minutes at the discharge planning meeting and/or any other rehabilitation department meetings in the absence of therapist.
•    Assist with the quality assurance projects for the department as requested by department supervisor.
•    Add water to hot pack machines daily or as needed.
•    Clean hydrocollator and paraffin bath as scheduled in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.
•    Check and record the temperature of hydrocollator, freezer, and refrigerator on routine basis during business hours on business days.
•    Maintain accurate record as applicable of all weekly cleaning of exercise equipment using an approved cleaning solution.
•    Conduct bi-monthly inventory and keep an accurate record on supplies used and purchased.
•    Maintain accurate inventory log of all department equipment and ensure preventive maintenance.
•    Retrieve patient medical chart from medical records as needed or requested by therapist.
•    Perform clerical duties as needed and/or requested.
•    Assist administrative assistant in compiling statistical reports as requested.
•    Maintain cooperative communication with other departments and relay issues to department supervisor and Rehabilitation team.
•    Assist in maintaining standard of care by advocating for patients as needed and listening to patient complaints.
•    Assist with communicating patient’s goals and objectives to evaluating therapist to meet the needs of the patient.
•    Attend regular staff meetings to ensure communication among personnel regarding program-related activities.
•    Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences as needed to enhance qualifications and skills required for clinical position.
•    Maintain strict confidentiality of ALL patient information.
•    Comply with company policies and procedures.
•    Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications    Minimum

Qualifications:
•    High School Diploma or related field, associate’s degree preferred.
•    Two (2) years progressive work experience in Rehabilitation or Physical Therapy Aide; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•    Must be able to successfully pass the Employee Health Program and background investigation.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
•    Knowledge of applicable tribal, federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, including Joint Commission Accreditation.
•    Knowledge of company personnel policy and procedures.
•    Knowledge of fire safety, emergency codes and infection control.
•    Knowledge of English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mathematics.
•    Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public.
•    Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
•    Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
•    Ability to speak the Navajo language and/or familiarity with the Navajo Way.
•    Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
•    Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
•    Ability to demonstrate excellence in competencies and seek improvement in results.
•    Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
•    Skill in operating business computers and office machines (i.e., MS Word, Excel, Access), and presentation software such as PowerPoint.
•    Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing reports as requested.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, grab, carry, talk see, and hear. The employee occasionally required to stoop, kneel, squat, and crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in clinic with moderate noise level. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
