Job Description

The Royal Hobart Hospital invites suitable applicants to apply for training within the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.

Rehabilitation Medicine is a recognised physician speciality with a dedicated 4-year training program overseen by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. The Royal Hobart Hospital is an accredited training site with four accredited training positions.

A doctor is eligible to apply to be admitted as a rehabilitation trainee at the end of PGY2.

Rehabilitation Medicine is the diagnosis, assessment and management of an individual with a disability due to illness or injury. Rehabilitation physicians work with patients and families to help them achieve an optimal level of performance and improve their quality of life.

Rehabilitation Medicine at the Royal Hobart Hospital encompasses inpatient wards (dedicated rehabilitation units and in-reach rehabilitation), outpatient services and procedural services, including ultrasound guided injection of botulinum toxin.

Rehabilitation Registrars receive clinical support and supervision via the team of Rehabilitation Physicians and have access to a comprehensive training program and protected teaching time.

Salary

$134,930 - $189,005 per annum

Salary is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

Period of Employment

Fixed term, full time day work, 76 hours per fortnight, plus 10 hours protected training time pro rata, commencing 1 February 2027 until 7 February 2028

Rehabilitation inpatient wards are located at:

  • 90 Davey Street, Hobart &
  • 30 Cascade Road, South Hobart

Registrars can anticipate rotating through these clinical sites during their period of employment.

Duties

The Registrar is responsible for the day to day management of inpatients and outpatients and provides afterhours emergency cover on a rostered on-call basis.

Essential Requirements

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) Crimes of Violence

b) Sex Related Offences

c) Serious Drug Offences

d) Crimes involving dishonesty

2. Identification check

3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
