The Rehab Technician is responsible for assisting customers with appropriate rehabilitation equipment that enables the individual to achieve the maximum possible function, within all payer and company guidelines. Responsible for fitting, adjusting, and assembly of equipment, as required, and providing instruction to customers, referral sources, and fellow employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides customers with rehabilitation equipment, such as wheelchairs, standing frames, tilt chairs, walkers, orthotics, power wheelchairs and other special-order equipment by accepting referrals from health care providers, assessing the needs of the customer, and recommending appropriate equipment. Consults with health care professionals as required regarding rehabilitative equipment.
  2. Assembles inspects and delivers rehabilitation equipment to customers when the situation requires. Conducts equipment fittings for customers by making necessary adjustments and modifications. Provides instruction to customers regarding the use and care of equipment.
  3. Prospects for new referrals/customers, by visiting prospective referrals, following leads, and presenting at educational sessions and trade shows.
  4. Places orders with/interacts with vendors, when required, for standard and special rehabilitation equipment, in accordance with company policy and procedure. Negotiates costs and terms with vendors. Assists to maintain an appropriate stock of products and parts in the rehab area of the warehouse.
  5. Obtains and verifies the completion of Certificates of Medical Necessity, letters of necessity, and other medical documentation as necessary to support prior authorizations and medical claims
  6. Completes projects, assignments, and other work duties as assigned.
  7. Recommends rehabilitative technology solutions that respect medical necessity, customer preference, insurance/financial considerations, and functional application for patients and his/her environment.
  8. Responds to reported problems or concerns identified by employees, customers, or caregivers, and provides appropriate recommendations to resolve them. Consistently contributes to the process of excellent service by following up timely to telephone messages or customer requests, by providing complete and correct information to employees, and by documenting on all forms to the company/departmental standard.
  9. Provides education to associates relating to rehabilitation technologies, as such needs are identified.
  10. Participates actively in company initiatives to improve quality while reducing controllable costs.
  11. Keeps Manager updated on any issues with company vehicles.
  12. Other duties as assigned by Manager.

Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  1. Knowledge of rehabilitation equipment uses and sales, normally acquired through previous work experience with a medical equipment supplier
  2. Experience in sales or marketing preferred

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other basic computer knowledge.
  2. Excellent written and verbal communications skills

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some flexibility with manager discretion.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no supervisory role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates primarily for installation, repair of equipment, driving, delivery and set up, loading and unloading equipment, and in-patient residences, which will require working in outdoor weather conditions. The Rehab Technician also spends time in an

office environment, warehouse setting, clinical (i.e., hospital) environment, and in outdoor weather conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The associate is typically required to sit; frequently stands and bends, occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds. Specific vision abilities typically used by this job include both close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The Rehab Technician is a tactile position, requiring the frequent handling of equipment, gauges and meters, common hand tools and some physical contact with patients during equipment training.

TRAVEL:

Travel may occasionally be required for this position for training, continuing education or other meetings at the corporate office.
