Salary: $39.813,$40.994, $42.210, $43.463, $44.752, $46.080

Participates in the collection, abstraction, utilization and analysis of complex medical data for the Provincial Cancer Registry. Accurately encodes all related cancer data from cytology, pathology, including electronic pathology feeds, autopsy reports, report of malignant neoplasms, admission/separation data from the provincial hospital abstracting system, vital statistics death listings, hospital and clinic charts to be recorded in the computerized cancer registry data base. Collects staging data for all disease using the AJCC TNM staging system for cancer surveillance and research database and health care planning and utilization. Utilizes all Multiple Primary and Histology (MPH) and/or Solid Tumour Rules (STR) coding guidelines when abstracting, coding, and registering cases.

Qualifications:

Required:

Level of Formal Education & Experience

  • Graduate of a recognized Health Information Management Program (2 year).
  • Member of or eligible for membership in the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) an asset.
  • Experience with ICD-O 3rd Edition (International Classification of Diseases for Oncology), ICD-9-CM/ICD10 (International Classification of Diseases Clinical Modification), and CCI (Canadian Classification of Interventions) coding required.
  • Knowledge of SEER (Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results Program) Multiple Primary and Histology and/or Solid Tumour Rules coding guidelines required.
  • Microsoft office courses required (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience in MAXON (+), Varian MedOncology and Enterprise Viewer/Client Registry computer systems an asset.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and organizational skills.  Judgement and problem solving skills required.

  • Must have satisfactory employment record
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada

Preferred:

  • Certified Tumour Registrar (CTR) preferred.
  • Member of or eligible for membership in the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA)
  • Experience in collaborative staging and/or AJCC TNM staging system.
  • One year experience as a Cancer Registrar in a Cancer Registry or related discipline.
