The incumbent performs a variety of tasks relating to the registration, admission and communication of in-patients and out-patients for Hospital Services.

Experience

  • One-year direct receptionist experience with patients and public contact in a health care setting required.
  • Experience with various types of filing systems required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Medical Terminology Certificate required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized program for Medical Administrative Assistant/Health Care Access Services, Unit Clerk, or the first year of a recognized Health Information Management Professional required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of Windows, email and database applications required.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate equipment including Fax Machine, printers, embosser, imprinter etc., required.
  • Keyboarding speed – minimum 40 wpm.
  • Familiarity with statistics and general accounting would be an asset.
  • Accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Demonstrates effective and courteous communication skills in the English Language.
  • Effective interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of employees, patients and the general public.
  • Ability to work with a minimal supervision, demonstrating flexibility and independence in planning work.
  • Ability to keep current with technology and to problem-solve equipment breakdown and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.

The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Golden Door Geriatric Centre, Golden West Centennial Lodge, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
