Work involves a mix of inpatient and outpatient care in a multidisciplinary setting. Duties include:
The Team:
The Northern Cancer Service provides comprehensive cancer care to the population of Northern/North West Tasmania (250,000 people). Treatment centres are located at the WP Holman Clinic, Launceston General Hospital, North West Regional Cancer Centre, Burnie, and the Mersey Community Hospital.
The haematology service at the Launceston General provides an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment. Using state of the art technology, the service combines the disciplines of medical and radiation oncology, as well as haematology and palliative care on one site. The range of conditions managed is diverse and includes both malignant and benign haematology in inpatients and outpatients. Allogeneic stem cell transplants are not performed in Tasmania but after-care from d+100 onward is usually transferred from Melbourne to the local Tasmanian haematologists. Apheresis and stem cell collection are performed on-site.
The Northern Cancer Service will provide the successful applicant with a quality clinical, educational and developmental experience. An extensive range of diagnostic and imaging services, including CT, MRI and PET, are available in Launceston.
The Launceston General Hospital is a major training site for the University of Tasmania Clinical School. Teaching and research is encouraged.
