The Registrar is responsible for collecting accurate patient demographic and insurance information for outpatient services, ensuring timely and efficient registration. This role collects insurance, co-pays, and deductibles at the point of service, expedites the registration process, and provides a positive first impression of the hospital to patients and visitors.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED – Preferred
  • Associate’s Degree – Preferred

Licensure:

  • N/A

Certifications:

  • Handle with Care certification required within 30 days of orientation and maintained annually

Required Skills:

  • Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
  • Strong communication and customer service skills

Essential Job Functions:

  • Collects and enters accurate demographic, billing, and clinical information into the registration system in a timely manner
  • Collects insurance information, co-pays, and deductibles at the point of service
  • Expedites the registration process efficiently while maintaining accuracy
  • Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members
  • Meets with patients or caregivers before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation
  • Provides clear explanations of processes and addresses patient questions and concerns
  • Communicates with physician offices, nursing units, and other departments to coordinate admissions and patient placement
  • Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as needed
  • Determines and collects required payments or refers patients to financial counselors for follow-up
  • Provides a positive first impression of the hospital to patients, families, and visitors
