Job Description

At Shelfield Vets for Pets we have a fantastic opportunity for an RVN to join our team. Whether you are a newly qualified Nurse looking to expand your experience or a more experienced Nurse looking to develop your skills further, we would love to hear from you.

About Us:

At Shelfield we take pride in delivering a high standard of veterinary care with a strong emphasis on patient well-being. Our team is comprised of skilled professionals who are dedicated to maintaining a high standard of care. We are a cat-friendly and dog-friendly practice, with separate dog and cat waiting areas.

By joining us you will have the opportunity to use your nursing skills to their full potential. We have a varied case load including dermatology, orthopaedics, and feline medicine. Utilize our state-of-the-art in-house lab, AI microscope system for cytology work, in-house blood machine, and blood gas analysis. You will also have the opportunity to perform schedule 3 work, assist with diagnostic imaging, including ultrasound and radiography.

You will be joining an existing team of 3 vets, with a dedicated reception team, RVNs, and student nurses. We strongly value and support further development and advanced studies. One of our vets is completing a dermatology certificate, and we actively support ISFM and advanced nursing certificates for our nursing team.

About the Role:

To apply for this role you will be a qualified RVN who is confident with consults. You will have good general nursing experience and great customer service skills, be cheerful, down-to-earth and enthusiastic with a genuine interest in animal welfare.

There are lots of opportunities to learn new skills, and we actively encourage nurses to bring their own interests into the practice. We’re currently expanding into laparoscopic surgery and advanced dental imaging, so this would suit someone keen to grow with the practice.

This is a Full or Part Time role including a mixture of early and late weekday shifts, as the practice is open 8:30am–7:00pm Monday to Friday, with 1 in 3 Saturday mornings (9:00am–12:00pm). There is no out-of-hours work required.

In return, we can offer you:

  • Competitive salary up to £28,000 for newly qualified RVNs, with scope for higher remuneration for experienced candidates, with structured progression reviews linked to experience, responsibility, and performance.
  • No OOH or overnight in patient checks
  • Generous CPD (including funded Certificates)
  • Social events and emphasis on wellbeing
  • Contributary pension schemes
  • Paid memberships (RCVS, BVNA, VDS)
  • Exclusive company and high street discounts and rewards

If you share our passion for delivering outstanding pet healthcare and great customer service, then we would love to hear from you!

Benefits

In return, we offer such benefits as 20% discount at the Vet Group, Pets at Home and the Groom Room, access to discounts and cashbacks, in-house career development opportunities, pension and holiday allowance.

We want our colleagues to be as diverse as our clients. Our teams are inclusive and celebrate difference so if you meet our role requirements, we’d love to hear from you.

Location WS4 1PU

We take our inspiration from pets in embracing people from all walks of life, and we value, respect and celebrate difference. We encourage our people to be their best selves so that we can create a better world for Pets, our Planet, and People. Our ambition is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and we are intentional in addressing and removing barriers to create opportunities for the exceptional talent and potential in our communities. Even if your skills and experience don’t perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you!

About Pets at Home

Since 1991, when we were a wholesaler with a team of just 15, we’ve been focused on getting better every day. By putting pets before profit, working as a team and taking pride in everything we do, we’ve grown into a 451 store network with more than 8,913 colleagues working in our Stores, Grooming Salons, Distribution Centres and Support Office.

We are the UK’s leading pet specialist, providing pet owners with all their product needs, as well as our Vets for Pets practices and Grooming salons. We support our colleagues to work with pride and passion, to bring honesty and integrity to work every day, and to do it all with a sense of fun and fearlessness. We never shy away from having the important conversations and doing what we say we’ll do.

Our values and behaviours are practiced daily across the business and are what really makes us an enjoyable, exciting place to work. We're always striving to develop and reward our colleagues with an extensive in-house series of training programmes, wellbeing initiatives and a comprehensive benefits package. In 2018 we were delighted to be voted top 5 in the Great Place to Work UK’s Large category.

Our colleagues are central to the success of the business and are fully trained in pet care and dedicated to animal welfare. Pets are central to everything that we do and 93% of colleagues have their own pets too!
