Job Description

Job Title: Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
Location: Forest Veterinary Centre – Epping Hospital
Practice Group: Forest Veterinary Group, part of Linnaeus
Contract: Fixed Term Contract (12 months – Maternity Cover)
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Salary: From £28,500 per annum (depending on experience)

Due to upcoming maternity leave, we are delighted to offer two Fixed Term RVN opportunities at our Epping Hospital. These roles will play a key part in supporting the practice during the absence of two Lead Nurses and offer an excellent opportunity for experienced RVNs looking to step into enhanced responsibility and leadership exposure.

🏥 About Us

Forest Veterinary Centre is a well-established, progressive veterinary group with a busy hospital site in Epping and several supporting branch practices. Our hospital is ISFM Silver Cat Friendly accredited and home to a highly experienced clinical team, including multiple certificate holders.

We are proud to offer excellent facilities including:

  • CT & MRI
  • Laparoscopy
  • Rigid & flexible endoscopy
  • Ultrasonography
  • Dental x-ray
  • In-house laboratory

We pride ourselves on delivering outstanding patient care and creating a supportive, collaborative environment where nurses are fully utilised and encouraged to develop.

🩺 The Role

This role is ideal for a confident, competent RVN who is ready to “hit the ground running” and take on additional responsibility during this maternity cover period.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Supporting the hospital team in the absence of Lead Nurses
  • Opportunity to take ownership of key areas such as:
    • Stock and ordering
    • Laboratory support
    • Dentistry
    • Other clinical focus areas depending on experience
  • Supporting and mentoring student nurses (clinical coach experience desirable)
  • Working closely with senior leadership and the wider nursing team
  • Rotating shifts including early, late and occasional twilight shifts
  • 1:6 weekend rota at the hospital with time off in lieu

Our dedicated night team covers out-of-hours, so no OOH work is required

👩‍⚕️ About You

We are looking for:

  • A Registered Veterinary Nurse (RCVS registered)
  • Ideally 1+ year qualified (though strong candidates with less experience will be considered)
  • Previous clinical coach or supervisory experience is highly desirable
  • A proactive, team-focused nurse with strong communication skills
  • Someone interested in gaining leadership exposure and broader responsibility

This role would particularly suit an RVN who is curious about leadership and wants to gain experience without stepping into a formal Lead Nurse position.

🚀 Development & Progression

  • CPD actively encouraged, including advanced qualifications
  • Funded external CPD and extensive Linnaeus in-house CPD programmes
  • Exposure to hospital-level nursing and specialist services
  • Opportunity to work across hospital and branch practices

While this is a maternity cover role, there is potential for future permanent opportunities within the group should suitable roles arise.

🕒 Working Patterns & Flexibility

  • 40 hours per week
  • Flexible working patterns available:
    • 4 x 10-hour days or 5 x 8-hour days
  • Rotas discussed collaboratively
  • Informal visits, phone calls, or working interviews welcomed prior to application

🎁 What We Offer

  • 5 weeks holiday + bank holidays + Birthday Leave
  • RCVS & VDS fees paid
  • External CPD funded + CPD days
  • Extensive free Linnaeus CPD programmes
  • Pension scheme with employer contribution
  • Life Assurance (4x salary)
  • Enhanced sickness and equal family leave
  • E-car salary sacrifice scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Staff discounts and benefits hub
  • Wellness support including:
    • Employee Assistance Programme
    • Eyecare vouchers
    • Annual flu jab
