Job Description

The Team:


Smithton District Hospital (SDH) is small sized sub-acute public hospital located in Smithton Tasmania. It services the whole Circular Head region with a catchment population of 8000 people.
The Hospital has 12 subacute beds accommodating general medicine, post-acute, palliative and end of life care. We have a 3 bay Emergency First Response unit staffed by nurses and General Practitioners (Rural Medical Practitioners) who are contracted to provide on call medical services. No surgery is performed at this hospital.
SDH offer outpatient services including low risk chemotherapy and supportive treatments for cancer patients, blood products and iron transfusions for acute and chronic conditions.
We have a small team of highly skilled staff who provide holistic patient care.

The Role:

  • Deliver care to patients and clients as delegated by the RN, under the supervision of an RN or EN, according to the nursing care plan and within the scope of the RUSON Workplace Guidelines.
  • Work with the RN and/or EN to support priorities for patient or client care delivery.
  • Assist the RN and/or EN in the collection of appropriate data from patients, clients and/or family.
  • Other duties as per Statement of Duties

You will need:

  • To be student nurse who has completed at least one placement at either Uni or TAFE so can actually be either student enrolled or registered nurse.
  • Hold a current first aid certificate

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, casual, position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 12 months. *notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $66,935 to $73,138 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

Regional Allowances

  • Remote and Rural Professional Development Allowance of an additional salary allowance of 4%

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria

  • An undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing student who has successfully completed their first clinical practice placement.

  • An undergraduate Diploma of Nursing student who has completed their first clinical practice placement.

  • Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

  • Current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).
