Position Title: Registered Respiratory Therapist

Division: AA

Location:Okinawa, Japan

Employment Class- FT- Hourly

We are seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist for a long-term contract providing personal medical services to support the Department of Defense (DoD) at U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa, its Associated Branch Health Clinics, and the U.S. Naval Dental Center Okinawa (3rd Dental Battalion) in Okinawa, Japan.

As a part of the Advancia Aeronautics Team, healthcare workers (HCW) will be supporting the Naval Logistics Command with medical services for active-duty military personnel, their dependents, eligible DoD civilian employees, and other eligible beneficiaries designated by the Government.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

· Efficiently administer all types of respiratory care to include oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, noninvasive ventilation, lung function testing, and spirometry testing in accordance with professional qualifications, and as directed by the Respiratory Therapist (Advanced) or physician.

· Efficiently draw blood and perform arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation in accordance with professional qualifications, and as directed by the Respiratory Therapist or physician.

· Operate and troubleshoot all types of respiratory equipment to include proper disassembly, cleaning, sterilization, and packaging of all respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe patient care.

· Maintain equipment, to include performing examinations to detect worn tubes, loose connections or other indications of disrepair and notify supervisor of need for maintenance. Start equipment and observe gauges measuring pressure, rate of flow and continuity of test equipment. Notify supervisor of malfunctions.

· Receive, set up, operate, and maintain various devices and systems such as ventilators, nebulizers, oxygen therapy systems, humidity and aerosol therapy, sterilizers, and aeration chambers.

· Administer prescribed doses of medical gases and aerosolized drugs intermittently and continuously.

· Perform airway management and hygiene, including chest percussion and postural drainage. Obtain arterial blood gas specimens.

· Perform patient assessments and monitoring and provide patient instructions, including breathing exercises. Make therapeutic recommendations. Examine patient records and report and identify changes in the clinical status of patients. Identify contraindications and report adverse responses/reactions.

· Change nebulizers on nursing wards and reset oxygen flow as prescribed by physician.

· Stock shelves in department and other departments of the MTF as needed for the provision of respiratory therapy.

·Perform ventilator management and other critical floor procedures.

Education & Experience Requirements

· Graduate from a respiratory therapy education program education by the Commission on Accreditation or

· Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) or the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

· Possess a current registration as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

· Possess a current certification for ACLS, PALS, NRP.

· Possess a minimum of 6 months full-time experience as a RRT within the last 3 years.

· Possess a minimum of 6 months providing RT services in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or a minimum of 6 months in an Adult Intensive Care Unit, or a minimum of 6 months in a Pulmonary Function Testing lab.

· Provide two letters of recommendation written within the last two years attesting to clinical skills. A minimum of one of the letters must be from a supervisor. The other letter must be from either a clinic or hospital administrator or a practicing physician. Reference letters shall attest to the quality and quantity of experience. The letters may also address patient rapport and the communication skills between practitioner and patient, and among peers. Recommendation letters must include the name, title, phone number, date of reference, address, and signature of the individual providing the reference.

Working Conditions/Working Environment/Physical Demands

· The HCW shall provide services Monday through Friday between the hours of 0600 and 1800. The HCW shall be assigned an 8 to 12-hour shift, (to include an uncompensated .5 to 1-hour meal break depending on shift length). In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services in excess of 80 hours per 2-week period. The specific schedule for each HCW for each 2-week period will be scheduled 1 month in advance by the supervisor.
