Radiology Technologists use x-ray equipment to obtain images of the body interpreted by a Radiologist andare responsible forpreparing patients for the exam,movingand instructing the patient into the proper position, correctlyoperatingthe equipment, and obtaining a high-quality image while minimizing radiation dose to the patient. Radiology Technologists may go on to specialize in more specific imaging techniques such as bone densitometry, cardiovascular-interventional radiography, computer tomography, mammography, magnetic resonanceimagingand nuclear medicine.
A caregiver in this position works days, 6:30am—7:00pm| weekends| float to other facilities if needed.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform general radiology exams, portableexamsand fluoroscopic procedures.
Produce quality images for interpretation with accuracy and without delay.
Acquire, archive,transmitand print images via PACS.
Ensure patient comfort and safety during and after the exam.
Educate patientsregardingprocedures,equipmentand exams to ensure understanding and cooperation.
Maintain documentation.
Addressequipmentmalfunctions, notify management and report malfunctions to the help desk and PACS administrator.
Assistwith scheduling procedures,monitoranddeterminepriority of patients, and process billing.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited school of radiologic technology
Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and in good standing
Current state licensure as a Radiology Technologist
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross
Knowledge of anatomy and related pathologic processes
Can communicate well with Radiologists and physicians to coordinate proper imaging of patients
Strong communicationskills are essential to provide excellent care to patients and families
Can function well with minimal or no direct supervision
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year of experience as a General Radiologic Technologist
