Grade: RPN3
Location: Melbourne Assessment Prison
$100,932 -$112,091 + super + salary packaging + benefits
Forensicare:
Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is Victoria’s specialist provider of forensic mental health services. We deliver recovery-focused programs that support consumers living with serious mental illness or problematic behaviours who are connected to, or at risk of contact with, the justice system, across a variety of settings including community-based services, inpatient units, and secure environments throughout Victoria.
Prison services:
We provide mental health services in prisons across Victoria. We strive to provide the same standard of services and care to people in prisons that anyone else experiencing mental illness can access at an areamental health service. Melbourne Assessment Prison is a 16-bed acute assessment unit, specialist clinics,
outpatient services and a reception assessment program. Our work in prisons includes:
• triage
• on-site assessments
• ongoing clinical care and support
• harm prevention and crisis interventions
• outpatient clinics and episodic care
• inpatient teams
• rehabilitation and transition to community programs.
Position objective:
The Registered Mental Health Nurse (RPN3) practises within a custodial setting and is required to asses, plan, implement, evaluate and maintain a high standard of patient care, recognising the needs of the individual within the boundaries set by the profession and the environment
Key responsibilities:
• Work within an ethically and legally sound framework.
• Demonstration of highly developed skills in the comprehensive assessment and treatment of patients in a custodial setting.
• Demonstration of initiative in the delivery of nursing care and an ability to practise autonomously.
• Provision of crisis intervention assessment to prisoners throughout the facility as appropriate.
• Formulation and documentation of patient centred care plans.
• Completion of initial and ongoing risk assessment of patients and liaison with the interdisciplinary team to provide a safe environment.
Selection criteria:
• Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
• Hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent and possess current registration with AHPRA.
• An awareness of the organisational structure and policies and procedures.
• A thorough knowledge of current psychiatric nursing practices.
