At Humber River Health Our Oncology team provides a full range of support to patients who are living with cancer, at all phases of their cancer experience - consultation, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and palliative and supportive care.

Right now we are looking for a Registered Practical Nurse to work with our Oncology Daycare Unit.

Location: Hennick Humber Hospital (formerly Wilson Site)

Reporting Relationship: Manager, Cancer Care Clinic

Hourly Rate $38.893 - $39.458 per/hour

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 8-hour day shift

Union Group: NOWU

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides patient and family centered care within the RPN scope of practice, based on the three-factor framework of the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Ensures that practice is consistent with entry to practice competencies, standards of practice, guidelines and legislation such as safe administration of supportive treatments based on the RPN scope of practice and Ontario Health – Cancer Care Ontario (OH-CCO) competency
  • Assists in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of patient’s cancer care plan throughout the continuum of care.
  • Provides health teaching, cancer-related symptom management support and monitoring, and communicates effectively with patients, families and all members of the healthcare team
  • Collaborates with Registered Nurses (RNs) and other members of the interprofessional health care team.
  • Utilizes the Meditech system for documentation of patient care.
  • Participates in project teams or Hospital committees as required.
  • Acts as a role model and promotes high reliability by identifying and integrating safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and high-quality care.
  • Assists in the orientation/preceptorship of new staff members and students
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager/delegate.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from a recognized Registered Practical Nursing two-year diploma program
  • Current RPN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BCLS certification
  • 2 years current experience in oncology required
  • Current De Souza Institute Oncology Foundations, preferred
  • Current De Souza Institute Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Administration Certification is required; or to complete within 1 year of hire
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to set priorities
  • Experience with patient health teaching
  • Demonstrates adherence to the hospital’s code of conduct, and living HRH values
  • Demonstrates excellent patient assessment skills
  • Demonstrates competency in a variety of skills including (but not limited to): medication administration, intravenous therapy initiation and discontinuation, CVAD management, blood and specimen collection, blood product transfusion, wound care assessment and management, pain and symptom management, etc.
  • Reliable, consistent attendance and discipline free record is a requirement.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team, patients, family members and visitors.
  • Demonstrates ability to work well independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced and high patient volume area
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement
