Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a highly independent professional nursing position working in and managing the Levy/Dixie/Gilchrist County School Health Programs This position reports directly to the Nursing Director. This position is headquartered in the Levy County Health Department. This position is the coordinator for all operational and data collection for School Health in Levy/Dixie/Gilchrist. This position is responsible for meeting all programmatic outcomes for the School Health Programs. The School Health program specializes in Child and Adolescent assessment and development of plans of care in the school settings for all public schools. The school health program is also responsible in assisting with the development and presenting prevention programs, and lectures on wellness. This position collects and evaluates data related to illness, screenings, and obesity, collaborates with other community/student/faculty groups, and represents the Health Departments in meetings with the County School Districts. This position ensures the School Health Services Plan/School Health Services Report is correct, completed, reviewed and submitted as requiredThis individual will be responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate. Responsible for the supervision of staff including appraisals, planning and directing work, approving leave, and having the authority for hiring and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions.
Position includes general nursing services such as nursing assessments, health appraisals, health screenings, identification of destructive lifestyle behaviors and basic first aid. Includes referrals to other providers. Provides individual student and client health counseling. Evaluates students’ specific health care needs and coordinates care between school staff, parents, physicians and family to ensure a health learning environment may provide health education sessions in the classroom and community. Make recommendations to staff and parents concerning health needs of individual students. Monitors the Health Assistants delivery of medication and First Aid in the clinic. Understands and works toward Goals of the School Health Plan. Maintains up-to-date student health records and makes home visits to families as needed. Serves as a resource to school personnel in control of communicable diseases.
Provides supervisory oversight of all Tri County school health personnel. Conducts QI site visits and review of each school at least once annually. Coordinates mandatory training for the school health staff. Assures accurate completion of the School Health Reports and Plans as required by the DOH/DOE. Presents the findings to supervisor and School Administrative staff.
Provides consultative services to Dixie and Gilchrist County School Health Programs. Develops and shares annual required in service programs with both counties. Meets at least twice annually- In Summer before school begins and at midterm with other SH supervisors to assure prepared for any new requirements. Precepts any new school health supervisors. Coordinates with the nursing director to do site visits in all three counties annually. Coordinates with Dixie and Gilchrist SH supervisors to develop the School Health Plan and Policy Manual when due for updates.
Provides nursing services in the Health Department clinics such as, but not limited to, nursing assessments, following nursing protocols, assisting practitioners, precepting nursing students, providing immunizations and well child work-up, phlebotomy, and patient education. Participates in monthly staff meetings.
Provides management services in times of disaster for the Levy County SPNS as Levy County SPNS Manager following all policy and procedures of the DOH and assists with training and orientation of new employees.
Performs other related duties as requested by supervisor. Required to be on call for emergencies as requested by supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of child and adolescent development. Knowledge of School Health Program Guidelines. Ability to communicate with others. Ability to lead others. Ability to organize and prioritize time and workload. Knowledge of common childhood illnesses and disorders. Skilled in triage and First Aid. Skilled in school health program planning and QIQA process. Skilled in motivating others. Skilled in excellent customer relations. Ability to maintain a positive and enthusiastic demeanor and looks for continual improvement.
Qualifications:
Minimum –Valid Driver's License, Valid State of Florida Registered Professional Nurse license. Must be willing to travel and have own transportation. Must have at least one year’s experience working as a registered nurse. Must have school health experience. Must have supervisory experience. Must have current CPR/First Aid/PALs.
Preferred –Experience working with children and adolescents. Experience working with children with complex medical conditions. Experience in community or group education/presentations.
