Job Description

Performs occupational health related nursing duties on-site at industry locations, including clinical nursing, injury/illness management, and health/wellness promotion for employees and family members over 18 years. Provides leadership by working cooperatively with other team members and disciplines in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic and/or advanced nursing tasks indicated for adult patients at onsite industry clinics.
  • Facilitating processes for Medical Leave Management. (Disability, Work Comp and FML)
  • Performs tasks required for surveillance and routine examinations. May include, but not limited to PFT, Drug and Alcohol Screening, Audiogram, Lab Test, EKG, Vision Screening, Vaccinations.
  • Performs assessments and completes documentation for patients presenting for initial injury/illness care and reoccurring visits.
  • Takes call after hours and responds to health related emergencies and manages progression to further medical treatment.
  • Dispenses routine medications as ordered by physician. Manages and maintains medication stock.
  • Provides basic care or treatments, such as taking vital signs, assessing pain level, administering prescribed medications, wound dressings and application of splints/braces.
  • Communicates test results and x-ray reports to physician.
  • Reports abnormal results and/or observations to physician.
  • Anticipates the needs of the physician, ensuring that follow-up test results, reports, and any outside documentation are available for review.
  • Completes documentation and correctly organizes all medical data in medical record.
  • Provides and documents patient education based on physical, behavioral, psychological, and developmental needs, after identifying barriers to learning.
  • Maintains a well-stocked, safe, clean work environment.
  • Attends in-service programs, all mandatory required training/education and unit/department/service meetings.

    • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
    • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

  • Must have a current Alabama RN licensure and must be in good standing with the board.
  • Must have at least 2 years nursing experience.
  • Experience in Urgent Care/Emergency Medicine preferred.
  • Experience in Occupational Medicine preferred.
  • BLS and ACLS required within 90 days of hire.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

    WORK CONTEXT

    • Interpersonal Relationships: This position requires working and communicating effectively within a team in a fast-paced working environment delivering medical services to patients and clients.
    • Physical Work Conditions: This position includes potential exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, lab chemicals and hazardous material. This position requires wearing personal protective equipment in appropriate situations.
    • Structural Job Characteristics: The Nucor Clinic hours are Monday through Friday, 0700-1700 work schedules are variable, but requires work necessary to perform the job.

    • This positions requires talking, hearing, bending, twisting, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, balancing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, repetitive motion, standing, and/or using hands to handle, control, or feel objects.
    • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
