Job Description

Duties:
  • Setting up equipment and supplies for E.C.T. procedure.
  • Assist in delivery of E.C.T. and the monitoring of the health status of clients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of emergency equipment, use of oxygen and suction machine plus use of pulse oximeter and cardiac monitor.
  • Recognizes and understands the symptoms of untoward reaction to an anaesthetic and required response.
  • Will rotate through the roles of treatment/circulating and recovery along with other permanent part time E.C.T. Nurses.
  • Transcribe details of E.C.T. procedure from patient charts into E.C.T. Case Report Forms.
  • Setting up equipment and supplies for intravenous ketamine infusion.
  • Assist in delivery of intravenous ketamine infusion and monitoring of the health status of clients.
  • Document client vitals and adverse events as outlined in intravenous ketamine Case Report Form.
  • Comply with Health Canada requirements for the use of Schedule I substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act as an investigational product.
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal’s Anti-Racism, Discrimination and Harassment-Free Workplace policy
  • Other assigned duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
  • BScN is preferred.
  • Current practice according to the Standards of Practice for Nurses in Ontario.
  • Clear understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
  • WHIMIS update in preceding 12 months.
  • Fire training update in preceding 12 months.
  • CPR certification within the last 12 months.
  • Completion of Suicide Prevention Training and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.     
  • Previous community mental health experience an asset.
  • Previous research experience an asset.
  • Excellent organizational and coordinating skills to maintaining efficient and safe patient treatment, recovery and transfer to and from units.
  • Excellent documentation skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in managing rapidly changing situations, skilled performance in emergencies.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player; comfortable with interdependence, consensus decision making and accountability to team needs.
  • Must complete workload measurement and RAI-MH training upon hire.  Input into the workload measurement and RAI-MH systems are required on an ongoing basis.
  • Must complete ICH-GCP and TCPS2 training, and review study documents upon hire.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading and writing.  
  • Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
