Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a highly independent and responsible professional nursing position working in and managing the Dixie County School Health Program. This position is the coordinator for all operational, fiscal and data collection for School Health. This position is the primary contact for all School Health activities for Dixie County and is responsible for meeting all programmatic outcomes for the School Health Program. This program specializes in providing outpatient primary care at each of the schools, coordinating and presenting prevention programs, and lectures on wellness. This position collects and evaluates data related to illness, health screenings, collaborates with other community/student/faculty groups, and represents the Dixie County Health Department Administrator in meetings with the Dixie County School District. This position ensures the School Health Services Plan/School Health Services Report is correct, completed, reviewed and submitted to DOH Headquarters on time. Responsible for the supervision of staff including appraisals, planning and directing work, approving leave, and having the authority for hiring and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions. This position reports directly to the Registered Nursing Consultant.

Instructs, trains, and supervises all Health Support/Clerical staff working in the School Health Program in a variety of professional nursing subjects that affect the School Health school-based clinics and students, utilizing protocols approved and signed by the Dixie County Medical and Nursing Director. Identifies training needs of DOH and designated school employees and ensures mandatory training is up to date

Communicate with attending physicians, other health professionals and agencies to assure an individualized approach to students’ care. Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the planning and implementation of treatment of individual students. Identifies community resources, arranges and coordinates health, education, social rehabilitative and economic services for the family.

Establishes a comprehensive information database for the student’s environment from which plans for nursing care and coordination of multi-disciplinary care are developed. Performs nursing interventions that affect the student’s home environment. Coordinates with other state agencies to ensure appropriate services are delivered to students. Provides nursing assessments of students in the school health setting. Ensures appropriate and timely medical charting in students electronic health record school records by DOH and designated School Health staff. Conducts random pharmaceutical audits in each school health room and maintains compliance with all school health policies. Provides ongoing Medical Charts Quality Assurance. Ensure compliance documentation. Compliant with all DOH policies and procedures as well as professional nursing licensing requirements/accountability.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Skilled in effective communication; skilled in administering immunizations and IM injections; knowledge of clinical practices and governing protocols; knowledge of nursing process; ability to lead and motivate others; ability to organize and recognize efficiencies; knowledge of vaccination schedules and practices; knowledge of TB, ADAP, Epilepsy, HIV, Maternity, Child Health, Immunizations, Insulin, Hepatitis Program guidelines; skilled in managing conflict; knowledge of emergency situation protocols; knowledge of nursing protocols; ability to mentor and educate others; knowledge of pharmacy protocols and guidelines; knowledge of mandatory trainings and license specific trainings. Knowledge in pediatric/adolescent health care. Knowledge of Audiometer, Titmus Vision Tester, Tympanometer.

Qualifications:

Minimum – Valid State of Florida licenses as a Registered Nurse, Willing to travel and have your own transportation, must have a least one-year experience working as a Registered Nurse.

Preferred – Experience in a school health setting as a nurse and or pediatric care. Current certification in CPR/First Aid/Pals. Experience working with children and adolescents. Experience working with children who have complex medical conditions. Experience in Community or group education/presentations.
