Hourly Pay Range:

$40.45 - $62.70 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Registered Nurse - SANE Program Lead

Position Highlights:

Position: Registered Nurse - SANE Program Lead

Location: Swedish Hospital

Full-Time: 40 hours per week

Hours: 7a-3p; 9a-7p, on call requirements/holidays

What you will need:

License: Current professional Nursing Licensure in the State of Illinois required

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

Certification: Completion of an International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN)-accredited SANE course with the required State of Illinois clinical component required; Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse required

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as an RN SANE leader or managing an RN SANE Program preferred

  • Prior experience in forensic nursing preferred

What you will do:

  • Provide comprehensive, trauma-informed care to patients presenting after a sexual assault, addressing the physical and psychological needs of patients served

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program, including coordination of 24/7 RN SANE response coverage

  • Maintain a reporting structure to the Nursing Director and share information necessary to support effective program operations

  • Serve as a resource on current state legislation and ensure program compliance with the Sexual Assault Survivor Emergency Treatment Act (SASETA)

  • Prepare and provide orientation, mentorship, and evaluation for personnel in the RN SANE Program

  • Establish and facilitate annual competency and quality assurance goals for the program

  • Partner with Emergency Services leadership to develop and maintain the program budget

  • Ensure RN SANEs receive timely and up-to-date information necessary to support program operations

  • Prepare and distribute meeting minutes and other written communications

  • Collaborate with Emergency Department leadership to develop and maintain monthly on-call schedules and support continuous program coverage

  • Maintain supplies and equipment required to conduct forensic examinations

  • Maintain forensic photography equipment and storage in accordance with SASETA requirements and organizational policies

  • Evaluate and release forensic photography in accordance with established policies

  • Collect and manage required data, prepare quality assurance reports, and submit required reports in accordance with SASETA

  • Participate in regional Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) meetings and other sexual assault task force meetings

  • Assist RN SANEs in preparing for courtroom proceedings and collaborate with Legal and Risk teams as needed

  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to communicate program needs and support efficient program operations

  • Serve as a resource and educator for hospital providers, staff, and community members regarding program functions and sexual assault care

  • Build and maintain relationships with community resource personnel, law enforcement, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

  • Participate in community outreach, education, and sexual assault prevention initiatives as requested or needed

  • Promote regulatory compliance, high-quality patient care, patient safety, and a positive patient experience
