About the Role

Forensic Treatment Unit

This program provides specialized mental health care for individuals involved in the criminal justice system or those at risk of offending. Services include assessment and treatment for individuals found Not Criminally Responsible (NCR) or Unfit to Stand Trial, as well as those convicted of an offense. Treatment units are located in Ottawa and Brockville.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Up to 3 months’ Nursing Experience
  • Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues
  • Clear understanding of MHA and relevant legislation
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.
  • Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues with specific knowledge about physical/medical compilations related to mental health and addictions
  • Able to meet the standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses
  • CPR certification within the last 12 months (BCLS at a minimum)
  • Evidence of continuing professional education
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills
  • Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Problem solving, leadership and management skills in responding to complex and rapidly changing situations
  • Sensitivity, skills and experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Preferred

  • Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
  • Recognized leadership skills with the ability to build the inter-disciplinary team approach to delivery interventions
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional inter-disciplinary treatment team

Language Requirements

English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset
