Registered Nurse (RN) – School Nursing

Kalamazoo, MI | $50,000 – $55,000 annually | Summers Off

Why This Role Is Different

This role provides1:1 nursing support for a student during the school day

As a 1:1 school nurse, you will be assigned to support one student whorequiresongoing medical care.Your role is to help remove health-related barriers, support independence, and ensure the student can fully engage in their environment.

Unlike traditional school nurse positions that cover large student populations, this role allows you to focus onindividualized care, relationship-building, and consistent support for one studentthroughout the school day.

When the student is absent oradditionalsupport is needed, you may alsoassistthe school with medication administration or other routine nursing needs.

Schedule

  • Monday – Friday
  • 7:00 AM – 1:30 PM
  • 32.5 hours per week
  • Approximately0.56 FTE

This role follows theschool-year calendar, meaning:

  • Summers off
  • School holidays off
  • No nights or weekends
  • No bus riding responsibilities

Compensation

  • Approximately $50,000– $55,000 annually

What Your Days Look Like

You’llprovide nursing support within the school setting, including:

  • Providing1:1 nursing care for a student with complex health needs, supporting independence and safe participation in the school day
  • Monitoring health status and managing chronic conditions according to individualized care plans
  • Administering medications and treatments as prescribed
  • Assessing and responding to illness, injuries, or medical emergencies during the school day
  • Maintainingaccuratehealth records and documenting care provided
  • Collaborating with teachers, administrators, and families to support student health plans, including IEPs and 504 plans
  • Serving as a health resource for the school community and providing guidance or training to staff as needed

Program Details

  • Small program withapproximately 30 students
  • Emotionally impaired school setting
  • Primary responsibility is supportingone middle school–aged student who requires ongoing chronic disease management during the school day

The (Required) Qualifications

To practice safely and compliantly, we do need:

  • Active, unrestrictedMichigan Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Experience working with pediatric patients, school settings, or chronic disease management preferred
  • Strong communicationskills and ability to work effectively with middle school–aged students
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) within90 daysof hire
  • Background check and fingerprinting will be required for this role
