Baystate Health is seeking a Per Diem Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Peri-Anesthesia Unit (PANU) at Baystate Medical Center (BMC) in Springfield, Massachusetts. As western Massachusetts's premier healthcare provider and home to Baystate Medical Center, a Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence, we are committed to delivering exceptional patient care and supporting professional nursing practice.

Our PANU team provides specialized pre-operative and post-anesthesia care for adult and pediatric surgical patients undergoing a wide range of procedures. Nurses work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, CRNAs, perioperative staff, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure safe, high-quality care throughout the surgical experience.

This per diem opportunity offers experienced nurses the chance to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment supporting the region's only Level I Trauma Center while maintaining scheduling flexibility. You'll collaborate with a highly skilled team dedicated to clinical excellence, patient safety, and outstanding patient outcomes.

The Registered Nurse (RN) Will:

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for pre-operative and post-anesthesia patients.
• Provide comprehensive patient assessments and monitor patients recovering from anesthesia.
• Prepare patients and families for surgical procedures through education and clinical evaluation.
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition using sound clinical judgment.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and multidisciplinary team members.
• Ensure safe patient transitions throughout the perioperative continuum of care.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Promote patient safety, quality outcomes, and an exceptional patient experience.

• Hours: Per Diem, as needed
• Schedule: Variable day shifts based on department needs
• Weekend Requirement: May be required based on operational needs
• On-Call Requirement: May be required based on department needs
• Other Scheduling Requirements: Per diem staff are expected to maintain flexibility and meet department-established commitment requirements.

Required Skills

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
• Minimum one (1) year of RN experience required.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Previous PACU, Pre-Op, Peri-Anesthesia, Critical Care, Emergency Department, Surgical Services, or ICU experience preferred.
• ACLS and PALS certification preferred.
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills.

Compensation

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
