The Clinical Practice Leader (CPL), reporting to the Director for Nursing Quality Outcomes and Professional Practice, acts as a member of the nursing leadership team responsible for driving safety and ensuring quality for patients and colleagues at the unit level. The CPL serves as a change agent to translate and integrate evidence into practice; to design and evaluate care and improve outcomes. As the process owner for nursing practice and quality, the CPL focuses on key nurse-sensitive indicators for improvement, utilizing process improvement methods to drive best practice.

This CPL role serves our 3 East and Short Stay teams.

  • Our 3 East inpatient unit cares for adult medical/surgical patients--most commonly gynecology, gyn-oncology, breast, ENT, plastic surgery, urology, ophthalmology, dental procedures. This unit also serves a small pediatric population, most commonly asthma, bronchiolitis, pneumonia, RSV, hyperbilirubinemia, and gastroenteritis.
  • Our Short Stay observation unit cares for post-surgical and post-procedural patients, most commonly orthopedic and gynecologic as well as infusion and transfusion patients. Other medical surgical patients with anticipated discharge disposition of 24-48 hours are also served.

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: A Master's of Science in Nursing (Clinical, Education, Administration)
  • Experience: Three to five years of acute care nursing for similar patient population. Progressive experience in health care including involvement in direct patient care, educating staff, supervising staff, and problem solving of unit or organizational issues.
  • Licensure: Current licensure as Registered Nurse in state of Michigan

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Performs and oversees the collection of holistic assessments and the development and implementation of a plan of care. Assesses patient’s response to treatment and care in collaboration with other care providers.
  • Consults on complex problems in client care, documents findings and progress in electronic record. Consults with physicians and other healthcare providers to communicate patient progress.
  • Ensures patient/family preparation for care across continuum prioritizing for high risk, chronically ill, complex, medically fragile patients.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills by synthesizing multiple data elements to evaluate and achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Assimilates and applies research/evidence-based practice information that supports improved patient care outcomes.
  • Collaborates as a member of unit leadership to achieve effective nursing operations:
  • Leads and or actively participates in daily quality huddles
  • Formally coaches and reinforces identified behaviors and established expectations related to nursing practice
  • Leads, supports and participates in shared governance activities
  • Identifies and substantiates resources needed for optimal patient care. Looks for opportunities to reduce costs and waste
  • Leads clinical practice at the unit level to achieve unit quality improvement and outcome-based initiatives. Initiates unit-based system reviews such as learning from defects and participate in root cause analyses to improve the quality of patient care delivery; critically evaluates and anticipates risks to patient safety.
  • Supports the clinical and professional development of nursing colleagues through mentoring, coaching and role modeling, including residency program and project development.
