Registered Nurse (RN)

**We are hiring staff for our new home Forest Trail in Peterborough, On. To be opened in Q3 2026**

This position is for our Forest Trail Home, located in 514 Deline St. Peterborough, ON K9K 1T3.

*** This position starts as casual in our Peterborough LTC home and will transition to full time / part time at our new Forest Trail LTC home in Fall 2026***

Mission

Reporting to the Director of Care (DOC), the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct resident care, administering medications, and documenting care in compliance with regulatory requirements and Extendicare’s Resident Health and Wellness standards, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete and ensure residents’ care assessments, service plans, and documentation are current, with changes communicated to the DHW/DOC for billing purposes

  • Assist with scheduling and participate in residents’ care conferences

  • Collaborate with DHW/DOC to support resident move-ins and transfers

  • Order, store, and administer medications (including narcotics) in compliance with regulatory standards and company policies

  • Provide resident and family education

  • Oversee resident self-medication assessments and audits

  • Supervise and delegate care and medication administration to Unregulated Care Providers in accordance with regulations and company policies

  • Plan, coordinate, manage, and evaluate residents’ care plans in collaboration with residents, substitute decision-makers, physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and service providers

  • Coordinate nursing team assignments to ensure efficient and timely service delivery

  • Respond to and manage significant changes in residents’ conditions and medical emergencies

  • Act as supervisor and lead emergency responses in the absence of the DHW/DOC and Executive Director

  • Address resident and family concerns, ensuring appropriate action or escalation to leadership

  • Support the DHW/DOC in implementing and monitoring Infection Prevention & Control, Health & Safety, and Clinical Quality Programs

  • Coordinate and supervise nursing student placements from approved institutions

  • Uphold Extendicare’s values, ethics, and Code of Conduct

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse in the applicable province/state

  • Experience working with seniors and Unregulated Care Providers

  • Knowledge or experience in gerontology, rehabilitation, community care, or long-term care (preferred)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated critical thinking, care coordination, time management, and customer-focused approach

  • Sound clinical knowledge and ability to delegate effectively

  • Maintains competencies in accordance with regulatory college standards

  • Proficient in computer use and Microsoft Office applications

  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC/VPS)
