Registered Nurse - Psychiatry Intake Coordinator

Full Time Night Shift - TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital

Location:

375 Dixmyth Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45220

Work Schedule:

  • Full Time Nights - (72 hours bi-weekly)
  • 7pm - 7:30am
  • Every third weekend rotation
  • Holiday rotation

This position conducts initial psychiatric screenings in the Emergency Department through inperson and Telehealth assessments and collaborates with ED physicians to determine the appropriate level of care. The clinician coordinates transfers between TriHealth and external facilities, supports community referrals, and helps maintain efficient patient flow. Using national clinical criteria, they independently evaluate psychiatric symptoms, determine care needs, and make decisions that impact highcost services. Strong communication, timemanagement skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fastpaced, multidisciplinary environment are essential.

Job Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree or Diploma in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse licensure required
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant/recent psychiatry experience is required
  • Must have a strong foundation at assessing for psychiatric symptoms and making level of care recommendations based on presenting issues
  • Experience in Clinical Psychiatric Nursing or Psychiatric Social Worker required
  • Substance Abuse experience

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs psychiatric screenings for Emergency Department patients, utilizing strong teamwork, communication, problemsolving, and conflictresolution skills.
  • Facilitates inhouse psychiatric consultations and ensures timely coordination between clinical teams.
  • Completes all required documentation, including referrals, consultation notes, and insurance communications.
  • Conducts quality assessments by identifying and documenting quality indicators, and differentiating between morbidity and mortality outcomes; reports findings to the manager and medical director as required.
  • Collaborates closely with Emergency Department nurses and physicians to determine appropriate level of care and treatment disposition.
  • Serves as a liaison between the hospital and external community partners to coordinate appropriate transfers to and from TriHealth facilities.
  • Applies utilization review (UR) principles, including verifying admission orders, determining levels of care, documenting patient status, and communicating changes with attending physicians.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills when negotiating approvals for services or advocating for reversal of insurance denials.
  • Utilizes expert clinical knowledge to determine appropriate levels of care based on patient presentation and matches patients with suitable inpatient services or community resources.
