About the Registered Nurse Position
Upperline Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (PRN) to be responsible for the delivery and documentation of preparing patients for surgery. The nursing role during this phase is to ensure that all documentation needed, and the patient is properly prepared for their surgical procedure. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery and documentation of patient care after surgery is complete. The nursing role during this phase is to ensure that the patient is awake and stable before being discharged to their home.
What You'll Do:
Confirms that the procedure consent, history & physical are not older than 30 days and all required paperwork is signed and dated by the patient.
Performs and records urine pregnancy testing on all female patients of childbearing years.
Performs and records blood sugar testing on all diabetic patients.
Documents NPO status and records last time the patient has eaten, drank any fluids, or taken any medications.
Records patient’s vital signs, allergies, and fall risk.
Inserts an IV line or if a local procedure case inserts an INT.
Discusses the anesthesia consent with the patient and instructs them to sign it. Explains to the patient that the anesthesia provider will discuss the anesthesia with them.
Completes surgical safety preop checklist.
Documents the physician visit and that the patient’s operative foot has been marked.
Discusses discharge instructions with the patient and that they will receive a copy of the instructions in the PACU to take home with them.
In PACU, monitors patient vital signs every 10 minutes for 30 minutes or until they meet he modified Aldrete score criteria for discharge.
Remove the patient’s IV or INT. Offer patient something to drink or a light snack. Diet products and water are available for diabetic patients.
Place the patient’s surgical boot or shoe on the operative foot and the patient’s own shoe on their non-operative foot.
Assess patient’s dressing and pain level on the operative foot.
Document bedside postop visit with the physician. Discuss instructions on non-weight bearing, partial weight bearing, or full weight bearing, according to the physician orders.
Complete the discharge plan and the status of the patient. Give a copy of the discharge instructions to the patient or the patient’s ride home.
Discharge the patient via wheelchair to their transportation vehicle.
Responsible for preforming the preop calls for the next day surgeries and the postop courtesy calls from the previous day surgeries. Document all calls in EMR.
Responsible for restocking the preop and PACU room cart supplies.
Responsible for restocking the IV start kit bags and placing them in the sterile supply room.
