Job Description

CVP is seeking Registered Nurses to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with primary care services at the Dayton VA Medical Center in Dayton, OH.

Working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM EST.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care to Veterans as part of the Primary Care Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), contributing to patient assessment, determining priorities, identifying nursing measures and therapeutic objectives, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Obtain patient history and pertinent family history; assess patient condition and develop or update an appropriate plan of nursing care.
  • Document plan of care and all care provided accurately and completely in the VA Electronic Health Record (EHR/CPRS) prior to the end of each shift.
  • Administer medications and intravenous (IV) therapies in compliance with facility policy and Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) protocols, maintaining a 100% accuracy rate in applicable areas.
  • Verify transcription of physician orders; verbal orders may be accepted only in compliance with facility policy.
  • Communicate pertinent patient data to the charge nurse and/or physician as appropriate; reassess patient condition and revise the plan of care based on identified nursing problems.
  • Assess and document patient response to administered medications and treatments.
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and their clinical implications; operate defibrillators, EKG machines, cardiac monitors, and other emergency technical equipment.
  • Perform central line and ventilator care in compliance with facility policy; manage patients with a variety of catheters and prostheses.
  • Perform skin assessment and initiate measures to prevent Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcers (HAPU); conduct Braden Scale assessments and Fall Risk Assessments and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Conduct intake and output assessments every shift and more frequently as clinically indicated.
  • Review all laboratory data and electronic medical records; ensure medication orders from the previous shift have been noted and appropriately carried out or transcribed.
  • Perform scrub and circulating duties in the Emergency Department and Operating Room as needed.
  • Initiate life-saving measures in the absence of a physician when clinically indicated; recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Instruct patients and families regarding prescribed medications, therapies, and surgical or diagnostic procedures; assess and document patient and family understanding.
  • Participate in discharge planning as appropriate.
  • Provide consultation and referral coordination with sub-specialists; communicate in person or by phone with referring clinicians regarding appropriate care pathways.

Qualifications

  • Must be eligible to obtain a Public Trust government security clearance. US Citizenship is required.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) at the time the program was completed. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any US State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • A current Ohio Board of Nursing license is required for on-site performance at the Dayton VAMC.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of direct patient care experience within the last three (3) years. Experience in Intensive Care, Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, Cardiac Monitoring, or Emergency Room settings is preferred. VA experience is desirable.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association-approved vendor.
  • Current CPR certification from an American Heart Association-approved vendor.
  • Influenza vaccination is required for this position in accordance with VHA Directive 1192.01.
