The Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Operating Theatres, specialising in Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Ophthalmology surgery.
As a Theatre Nurse, you will play an integral role in supporting surgical teams in the safe and effective delivery of ENT and ophthalmic procedures. You will provide skilled perioperative nursing care across the scrub/scout roles and contribute to the smooth functioning of operating sessions, ensuring adherence to surgical protocols, infection control, and patient safety standards.
In this role, you will:
Prepare and maintain the operating environment, instruments, and equipment specific to ENT and ophthalmic surgeries.
Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide precise, timely assistance throughout procedures.
Ensure accurate instrument counts, specimen handling, and documentation in accordance with policy and regulatory requirements.
Contribute to efficient theatre turnaround times through effective teamwork, communication, and organisation.
Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, and multidisciplinary staff to deliver patient-centred, evidence-based care.

Selection Criteria
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a theatre, perioperative, or surgical nursing environment (ENT and/or ophthalmology experience highly desirable)
Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
Proven ability to work confidently in scrub and scout roles within a multidisciplinary surgical team
Sound understanding of surgical instrumentation, aseptic technique, and infection control principles
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to teamwork and patient safety
Excellent organisational and time management skills to support efficient theatre operations
Flexible availability (Monday–Friday preferred, with possible rotating shifts or weekends as required)
Well-developed computer skills including use of electronic medical record systems

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.
