Focuses on the care of pediatric patients and recognizing that children have unique healthcare needs that require specialized knowledge and expertise. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care, participates in discharge planning, functions as a patient advocate and teaches patients/families about illness/injury and overall health promotion and wellness. Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the patient/family by documenting care provided and responding to incidents in accordance with established policies and procedures. Consults, confers and collaborates with other health care providers, maintains and advances own clinical competence and participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects, as assigned.Practices in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards and code of ethics for registered nurses. Practices within the scope of practice as set by the organization, as per VCH policies and guidelines/clinical practice documents and within own competence. This practice is aligned with the vision, mission, goals and values of the organization as well as with the concept of a patient and family centered care model. QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Post graduate coursework or a certificate in pediatrics including courses in breastfeeding and one (1) year recent related clinical experience working with a pediatric patient population, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesDemonstrated ability in nursing practice related to designated patient group.Demonstrated ability to develop and implement care plans.Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, establish priorities and deal with conflict.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety. Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.Demonstrated ability to deal with others effectively. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.Demonstrated ability to counsel and teach patients and their families.Demonstrated ability to provide leadership through initiative and problem-solving.Demonstrated skill in clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
