Who We Are
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to provide professional nursing care and services to our consumers in our residential homes. In this role, you get the opportunity to build lasting relationships while practicing your nursing skills!

Minimum Education and Experience
Diploma from an approved nursing program, or an associate's degree in nursing; bachelor's degree in nursing preferred; two years of experience working as a Registered Nurse; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. At least one (1) year of experience working with an Intellectually/Developmentally Disabled (ID/DD) population preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing; of medical terminology; of communicable disease and chronic disease etiology, prevention, and treatment. Ability to evaluate health care and medical service needs; to administer medications and perform skilled nursing services, treatments and procedures; to anticipate patients' needs; to prepare and maintain organized, detailed and accurate medical records and charts; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.

Additional Requirements
Possess licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Board of Nursing.

Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.

Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Examples of duties

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Takes, monitors, and records vital signs;
• Observes, records, and reports symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient conditions;
• Prepares and administers prescribed medications, treatments, and therapies;
• Educates staff, families, and patients on routine care and prevention procedures;
• Inventories, orders, and stocks medications and medical supplies;
• Maintains medical charts and records;
• May render emergency care in crisis situations;
• Schedules and transports individuals to their medical appointments; and
• Performs other work as required.

Qualifications

Up to 28 hours/week; shifts will vary; primarily evenings and weekends
