Community-based Non-Profit caring for individuals with developmental disabilities for over 40 years!

Come be part of something you can feel good about...

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse at Sunnyhill, Inc, you will play a critical role in ensuring the holistic health and safety of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Unlike high-volume hospital settings, this role allows you to build long-term relationships with residents and develop deeply personalized care plans.

Flexible Schedule & Mileage Reimbursement

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Oversight: Perform physical examinations and monitor the ongoing health status of individuals with complex medical needs.
  • Care Coordination: Collaborate with physicians, therapists, caregivers, and families to develop and implement Individualized Service Plans (ISP)
  • Medication Management: Oversee medication administration records (MARs) and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Staff Training: Educate and delegate clinical tasks to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), ensuring they are trained in specific medical protocols (e.g., G-tube feeding, seizure management).
  • Advocacy: Act as a medical advocate during specialist appointments to ensure the individual's needs and preferences are accurately communicated.
  • Emergency Response: Provide triage and emergency nursing care as needed within the residential or day-program setting.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Licensure: Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
  • Education: Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of nursing experience; experience with the IDD population or home health is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong clinical assessment skills, patience, and the ability to communicate medical information to non-clinical staff.

Why Join Sunnyhill?

  • Mission-Driven Work: See the direct impact of your care on the independence and joy of the people we serve.
  • Work-Life Balance: Stable, predictable, and flexible scheduling with limited weekend or holiday requirements compared to acute care.

About Sunnyhill Inc.

Sunnyhill is a nonprofit organization that delivers life-changing services that transform communities. As one of the largest locally based health service providers in Jefferson County, St. Charles County, and Greater St. Louis Metro, we support individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities with a team of 400 staff members. We strive to fulfill our mission by providing various person-centered services, including family navigation, behavior supports, independent living assistance, life skills development, housing opportunities, and socialization. We illuminate pathways for our community through education, expert environment cultivation, and advocacy to help individuals succeed.

Our inclusive community values are deeply embedded in our history. In 1978, eighteen families started Sunnyhill to provide their children with disabilities with a suitable camp experience. Despite limited recreational options, they worked tirelessly to secure funding, housing, and activities for future generations with developmental disabilities under the guidance of Monsieur Behrmann. Without a national anchor funding source, Sunnyhill's operations rely entirely on our community's support, including in-kind contributions, fundraising, grants, and government subsidies.

Our original location in Dittmer, Missouri, is now the fully inclusive accredited Adventures Camp, where we offer enriching summer programs that welcome campers during 6 to 8 weeks of summer programming. During the off-season, the campgrounds are a versatile venue for school field trips, retreats, family reunions, and community events. Our Adventure team also organizes weekend excursions for the individuals we serve, adding to our transformative offerings.

Our logo features a radiant sunrise over one of the camp's original structures in Dittmer, symbolizing our commitment to empowering individuals. Sunnyhill is proud to create a world of opportunities for people diagnosed with developmental disabilities.
