Department: Post Anesthesia Care Unit
Shift/schedule: Full Time (36 hrs/wk), Varied Shift

GENERAL SUMMARY

Works under the supervision of the Post Anesthesia Recovery Nurse Manager. The RN's primary job function is to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care in the PACU unit according to policies and procedures. Documents ongoing nursing process. Accepts responsibility for direction of coworkers in implementation of care plans.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing required

Licensure:

• Licensed to practice as an RN in Ohio required

• BLS within 90 days of hire required

• ACLS and PALS within 1 year of hire required

Experience:

• Previous experience in critical care (ICU, ER, or PACU) preferred

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

1. Assesses patient on admissions, discharge, and every 15 minutes assessment (or more frequently) until discharge criteria have been met.

2. Develops a plan of care by communication and collaboration with the physician and other health care team members to provide continuity in administering individualized patient care according patient care according to unit standards. Continuously evaluates, intervenes, and revises plan of care as necessary to provide desired outcome.

3. Provides, delegates, and coordinates the plan of care. Notifies physician of ongoing patient care needs. Supervises ancillary personnel as appropriate. Contributes and fosters the team approach in all unit operations.

4. Initiates, manages, and participates in the discharge planning process from the unit following discharge criteria per physician. Facilitates patient/family teaching as appropriate.

5. Maintains professional standards by attending required inservices, workshops, committees, quality improvement, and functions as an educational resource.

6. Facilitates physiological, psychosocial, and spiritual care of the patient and the family.

7. Contributes to the fiscal operation of the PACU.

8. Responsible for on-call on assigned basis.

9. Maintains positive interaction with customers.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

11. Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy
