A healthcare organization in Show Low, Arizona, is seeking experienced Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery for permanent night-shift opportunities.

The L&D RN will provide comprehensive care throughout labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, and couplet care. This unit manages both routine and high-risk obstetric patients, including patients with pre-eclampsia and fetal distress.

  • Perform comprehensive maternal and fetal assessments
  • Monitor fetal heart rate patterns and uterine activity

  • Respond confidently to obstetric emergencies while awaiting provider arrival
  • Assist with vaginal deliveries and Cesarean sections
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative nursing care for C-section patients
  • Provide couplet care to mothers and newborns when department census and workflow require it
  • Manage antepartum and triage patients
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and treatments according to established protocols
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, scrub techs, and other members of the care team
  • Educate patients and families regarding labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, newborn care, and discharge planning
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and maternal-newborn care standards
  • Participate in required call rotation
  • Float to other hospital units, most commonly Medical-Surgical, when operationally necessary

Qualifications

Required

  • Current Registered Nurse license or eligibility for Arizona licensure
  • Minimum of three years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
  • Recent C-section experience
  • Strong experience caring for high-risk obstetric patients
  • Proficiency in fetal heart rate monitoring and interventions for fetal distress

  • Ability to provide both Labor & Delivery and couplet/postpartum care
  • Current Basic Life Support certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification
  • Current Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification
  • Strong clinical judgment, prioritization, and emergency-response skills
  • Ability to work night shifts and participate in call rotation

Preferred

  • More than three years of Labor & Delivery experience
  • Previous high-risk obstetric nursing experience
  • Experience working in an L&D department without continuous in-house OB coverage
  • Previous postpartum, Mother-Baby, or couplet-care experience
  • Experience floating to Medical-Surgical or other inpatient units

Department Information

The Labor & Delivery department includes:

  • 7 Labor & Delivery beds
  • 2 triage beds
  • 10 postpartum beds
  • Approximately 1–3 births per day
  • Approximately 830 births annually
  • Typical nursing ratio of approximately 1:2
  • Respiratory Therapist available on the unit 24/7
  • 24/7 in-house pharmacy
  • OB scrub technician support
  • Patient Care Technicians and Health Unit Secretary support
  • Nurse Manager available to provide patient-care assistance when needed
  • OB and Neonatology providers are not continuously in-house

Schedule & Call

  • Full-time night-shift position
  • Approximately one call shift per four-week scheduling period
  • Floating may be required based on hospital census, typically to Medical-Surgical

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits
  • Retirement savings programs
  • Paid time off
  • Continuing-education and professional-development opportunities
  • Maternal-newborn nursing career advancement opportunities

If you are an experienced Labor & Delivery RN with strong fetal monitoring, C-section, and high-risk obstetric skills who can confidently respond to emergencies in a community hospital environment, we would love to hear from you.

About Next Move Healthcare

As former nurses ourselves, who live and work in the Midwest, Next Move operates under one guiding principle: give nurse travelers the best travel assignments with the highest pay and the most personalized recruitment experience possible. If that means we get a text from a nurse traveler at 4:32am. We answer that text at 4:32am. If that means a nurse traveler wants an assignment that’s only 32 hours a week, we find them that assignment. If that means a nurse is looking to make upwards of $3,000 a week – we bend over backwards to make that happen.
