The RN Infusion Clinician functions under the direction of the Manager Infusion Therapy The RN Infusion Support demonstrates knowledge and clinical experience in infusion therapy techniques, including but not limited to implanted ports, peripheral and central venous catheters, and PICC lines.
This individual is responsible for providing safe patient care with an understanding and awareness of age appropriate and culturally aware needs. The RN Infusion Support addresses the patient/family biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial and education needs and is responsible for delivery of patient care in complex situations. The RN Infusion Support serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff and management, and medical staff.
Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental and age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs.
Licensure or other certifications: Licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia. Maintains Basic Cardiac Life Support certification, required; must provide certificate annually or as requested.
Educational Requirements: Associates Degree.
Minimum Experience: One (1) year in a direct patient care role in an acute care environment and in the specialty.
Other: Professional organization membership within three months of hire into the role.
Preferred Licensure or other certifications: ACLS certification.
Preferred Educational Requirements: A degree in Nursing (either BSN or MSN). BSN strongly encouraged within five (5) years.
Preferred Experience: Three (3) years of direct patient care experience in an acute care environment and within the specialty.
Other:
Meets all certification requirements defined by unit (i.e. BLS, ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification)
Demonstrates strong clinical expertise and judgement; Demonstrates proficiency in IV Therapy technologies
Strong Computer skills (computer systems defined by unit)
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; Inter- and intra-departmental coordination of patient care activities
Demonstrates critical thinking skills
Monitors schedule and organizes patient flow for infusion services.
Collects patient history and provides feedback to the physicians for any concerns or issues arising between infusions.
Ensures that each patient encounter is completed and documented in accordance with operational guidance and policies.
Has knowledge of drug uses, dosage requirements, and safety considerations for all drugs administered in the infusion center.
Maintains infusion center in compliance with defined operational guidelines and state/federal regulations.
Administers all medications according to order, prescribing information and protocol.
Assures pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies as applicable.
Facilitates drug -administration by assessing patient, pertinent labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and, problems and symptom management.
Maintains accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided.
Provides patient education for prescribed medications being administered in the infusion center.
Communicates with internal/external personnel and patients as needed in a timely and efficient manner.
Coordinates with supervising/prescribing providers for any concerns related to the administration of patient care services.
Provides oversight and delegation of nursing care activities delivered by unlicensed staff members as appropriate.
Contributes to department and organization quality and process improvement activities/initiatives.
Follows OSHA guidelines when handling biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood borne pathogen. Maintains all disinfection protocols. Maintains equipment according to quality control standards.
Participates in staff meetings and other activities as directed.
