Job Description
The Float/Resource Registered Nurse assists in the planning, delivery, coordination, and evaluation of patient care within the scope of registered nursing practice. This role provides clinical support across the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Medical Surgical Unit based on patient care needs and staffing priorities.
The RN must demonstrate the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to safely care for patients across multiple acuity levels while delivering age-appropriate care. The individual must possess a strong understanding of growth and development throughout the lifespan and be able to assess, interpret, and respond appropriately to each patient's clinical needs in accordance with hospital policies, professional standards, and evidence-based practice.
Required
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Experience in the Emergency Department and/or Intensive Care Unit is required for this unique role
- Current BLS Certification
- Current ACLS Certification
- Excellent assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Flexibility to float between the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Medical Surgical Unit
Preferred / Required Within Established Timeframe
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Candidates who do not currently hold TNCC and PALS must be willing to obtain these certifications within the timeframe established by Cottage Hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, compassionate, evidence-based nursing care across assigned clinical areas.
- Adapt quickly to changing patient care needs while maintaining high standards of clinical excellence.
- Prioritize care for patients with varying levels of acuity using sound clinical judgment and critical thinking.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapy, laboratory, radiology, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Identify subtle changes in patient condition and communicate findings promptly to the appropriate provider.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
- Administer medications safely while monitoring and evaluating patient responses.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge planning.
- Delegate appropriately to LPNs and LNAs while maintaining accountability for patient outcomes.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation in accordance with hospital standards.
- Participate in ongoing education, competency validation, and professional development.
- Promote a positive, collaborative environment focused on quality outcomes and exceptional patient experiences.
