Job Description

At NorthBay Health the Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) has the responsibility, accountability, and the authority to deliver safe, effective, quality, excellent nursing care according to the philosophy and goals/objectives of the Department of Nursing. The RNFA, utilizing the Jean Watson’s Theory of Caring, Relationship Based Care, and NorthBay’s professional nursing practice model to assess, plans, implements, and evaluate care for all patients assigned to his/her care. The RNFA makes determinations regarding the progress of the patient toward goals and utilizes a therapeutic professional relationship with the patient/ family and interdisciplinary team to facilitate the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health. The RNFA functions as a first assistant during surgical incision, excision, and repair of pathology throughout the perioperative period on procedures for which privileges have been granted. Care is provided according to specific physiologic, developmental and psychosocial needs of the patient. RNFA supports the mission, vision, values and expectations of excellence of the organization.

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional registered nursing. BSN required.

Licensure/Credentials:

  • Current California RN license required.
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room required.
  • Certification by a national certification board-certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) preferred.
  • Current AHA or equivalent BLS and ACLS certification required.

Experience and Skills:

  • Two (2) years’ experience as an RN in the operating room.
  • Previous experience in caring for cardiovascular patients preferred.
  • Successful completion of didactics of university based course in first assisting required.
  • Successful completion of endoscopic vein/artery harvesting course preferred.
  • Demonstrates ability to evaluate patient’s physical and emotional status.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide patient care based on age-related needs.
  • Demonstrates current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age groupsPediatric, Adult, and Geriatric.
  • Knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, surgical technique, wound healing, suture materials, physical assessment, and the nursing process.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills with patients, professional staff, and support staff.

Compensation:

  • Hourly Salary Range Min $81.79 - Max $98.76 (Offered hourly rate based on years of experience)

NorthBay Health is a locally based, nonprofit health care organization serving Solano County since 1960.
