Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct supervision of the assigned NACS. Directs their activities and task accomplishment during the shift
  • Capable of applying new standards of care consistent with evidence-based care.
  • Develop ways to improve and streamline patient flow and identify process improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures inventory of supplies and medications working in conjunction with central supply, and pharmacy.
  • Understand and apply hospital policy and procedures along with identifying ways to improve policies through experience and observation.
  • Part of a team of enthusiastic nurses that strive to achieve and excel at providing the level care and patient (and family) service that will distinguish the function of the department.
  • Understands Meaningful Use and is proficient with an electronic health record along with being able to train staff in its use for effective charting and charge capture.
  • Seeks out and participates in professional development programs provided by the organization or through the nurse's own resources. Maintains high level of professional competency and is adaptive to the changing environment of nursing practices.
  • Participates on committees as assigned for purposes of developing and implementing standards for quality of Nursing Services.
  • Responsible to monitor use of supplies and services to maximize department’s available resources based on budget planning. Ensures daily charges are captured and reported for hospital revenue.
  • Ensures staff coverage and adjusts quickly to short notice staffing deficiencies.
  • Adjusts work scheduling to meet organization needs and to ensure safe patient care staffing.
  • Addresses patient concerns with patient care policies, protocol and procedures.
  • Conducts annual evaluations on personnel as required and ensures annual competencies are completed within established timelines.
  • Responsible for preparing occurrence reports in accordance with Risk Management protocol and policies whether they be patient, family, or visitor.
  • Continually monitors patient satisfaction and investigates ways to improve the level of satisfaction.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use all channels of communication to address concerns, problems, and conflicts with other departments. Implements and enforces the chain-of­ command.
  • Punctuality is a critical part of this position. Performs other duties, as directed by leadership including assisting other departments.
  • Checking hospital email at least once per workday since primary source of communication.
  • Will provide great customer service and maintain a positive attitude
  • Participate in quality improvement projects. Attend training and meetings as required
  • Maintains awareness of current quality and safety measures on the unit and follows guidelines or reporting measures to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Knowledge and skills in quality improvement and research methodologies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.



Qualifications

Education, Experience and Other Requirements:

  • Diploma Graduate, associate degree, or BSN in Nursing
  • Current Michigan License as a Registered Nurse
  • BCLS, ACLS, PALS
  • TNCC- Must obtain certification within 1 year
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Positive attitude among fellow associates and customers alike
  • Flexibility with changing tasks.
  • Must have the ability to handle the physical and mental demands of the position.
  • Cross-training for other nursing departments may be required.
  • Punctuality is a must.

About Sheridan Community Hospital

Sheridan Community Hospital and Clinics is a 22-licensed bed critical access hospital with 10 being certified as "Swing Beds"​ or transitional care nursing, located in the heart of Montcalm County, on M-66. The hospital serves Montcalm and parts of Ionia, Gratiot, Mecosta, and Isabella counties. In 1999, SCH became certified to provide care for patients requiring longer-term stays.

We have continued success in broadening our capabilities in the area of emergency services, same day and short stay surgery, patient-centered care, outpatient services, visiting physician specialists, and the offering of on-going community education programs.

Services continue to expand and include emergency care and a walk-in clinic (24 hours, 7 days a week), inpatient and outpatient services, medical/surgical care, same day or short stay surgery, rehabilitation services, CT scanning, MRI, ultrasound, X-Ray, mammography, bone density testing, and various other diagnostic testing, as well as, an affiliated family practice - Sheridan Care. Additionally, SCH offers a variety of health and wellness programs like monthly education workshops, health screenings, community health fairs, and blood pressure clinics.

Sheridan Community Hospital has evolved in recent years from a hospital to being part of a much larger health system. It includes a hospital-owned family health practice, located in Sheridan, across from the Hospital. Currently, the practice has three fantastic providers who see patients daily and provide exceptional services.
