Job Description

Position Summary

This position supports the Clinical Education program. Provides timely clinical and non-clinical education to the health system employees. Coordinates nursing orientation, continuing clinical education of staff, and processes incoming students for clinical rotations or observation experiences. Coordinates and oversees the Nurse Resident Program and serves as a point of contact and mentor to participants. Facilitates preceptor workshops, assists in developing the agenda, scheduling of classes, and facilitating training.

Position Requirements:

Formal Education / Training:

  1. Earned a nursing diploma or degree from a college or university
  2. BSN required or must be obtained within three (3) years from date of hire
  3. RN licensed by the State of Tennessee

Workplace Experience:

RN with at least three years nursing, training and development experience in a clinical setting.

Equipment and Skills Training:

The ability to work well under pressure, to function dependently and independently and to be flexible in applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety of settings. Basic computer skills, strong interpersonal and written communication skills and proper telephone etiquette. Understanding of instructional design and adult learning theory. Ability to develop and present educational content, both clinical and nonclinical, in a variety of settings, good presentation skills. Experience with Meditech and HealthStream systems preferred.

Physical Effort:

Must be able to sit, stand, lift, bend, and use a keyboard and telephone.

Key Results:

Develops and facilitates educational programming as assigned, including research of material, lesson preparation and evaluation.

Schedules and maintains educational programs to including computer-based training, competency development and orientations.

Serves as internship coordinator and liaison for schools, colleges and universities. Maintain affiliation agreements as needed.

Coordinates and oversees the Nurse Resident Program. Serves as point of contact and mentor to participants. Maintain compliance with any reporting requirements related to the program.

Conducts clinical and non-clinical in-service programs as required by needs assessment and/or request.

Assists with preceptor workshops, develops agendas, schedules of classes, and facilitation of training.

Assists with other department programs as required including, but not limited to: NVCI, BLS, ACLS, PALS, and other educational programs.

Manages and maintains educational resources, equipment, and materials, ensuring they are readily available for teaching and training activities.

Participates in unit and/or interdepartmental committees and keeps others advised of changes and improvements.

Assists with health system orientation, clinical orientation, and ongoing clinical education as required.

Supports the employees and functions of the Education and Organizational Development Department.

Completes other duties as assigned.
