RNs in the Center for Sleep Medicine (CSM) work with a multidisciplinary team specialized in the management of sleep disorders across the lifespan, providing care to both pediatric and adult patients. The primary focus of the nursing role in the CSM is two-fold:
First, to improve patient outcomes via facilitation of chronic disease management education and assessment of treatment response to established plan of care. Second, to facilitate direct support of Sleep Medicine physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in management of ongoing patient care issues with established patients to optimize availability of physicians and APPs to be available for new consultations and complex decision making.
All patient phone calls, secured messaging, and prescription requests are triaged to the nurses. The RN is accountable for the delivery of direct patient care and phone care including patient assessment, education, and care interventions such as education visits for Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia and follow-up visits for the management of positive airway pressure. Others areas of nursing support include conducting Image Rehearsal Therapy visits, acupressure education, desensitization for positive airway pressure, and supporting patients participating in Interactive Care Plans for indications of insomnia and obstructive sleep apnea. The work schedule for this position is weekdays, day time hours until 5pm. Location downtown (Gonda).
The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.

Graduate of a nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). One year of RN experience required.
All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
One year of professional RN experience required. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the clinical and/or research settings. Computer and keyboarding skills. Abilities to effectively problem solve, work independently, as well as excellent communication (with all members of the multidisciplinary team) and team participation skills will be called upon for this position. Must be highly organized and be able to function well independently in a fast paced environment. Must be able to coordinate schedules and maintain efficient patient flow in a busy setting. Ability to work with all ages (infancy- elderly).

License and Certification (Must obtain prior to start date):
Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
