About the role

Mater Townsville’s Coronary Care and Cardiothoracic Unit (CCU/CTU) is seeking experienced and dedicated Registered Nurses to join our team. We offer excellent flexibility, with opportunities ranging from Permanent Part-Time (0.6 FTE) through to Full-Time and Casual employment available. Choose the arrangement that best suits your lifestyle! To be considered for this opportunity, this role requires participation in a 24/7 rotating roster including morning, afternoon, and night shifts.This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a dynamic, supportive clinical environment where your specialist skills and experience will have a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.

The CCU/CTU is a 40-bed unit (8 dedicated Coronary Care beds), providing a high level of care for acutely ill and chronic cardiovascular/cardiothoracic patients, catering for elective and emergency admissions. Offering a wide variety of cardiac services to the community the team strives for excellence in customer care and best practice.

Salary range: $41.73 - $53.53 per plus superannuation and  access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +  access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

  • Delivering and evaluating evidence‑based nursing care within your scope of practice
  • Advocating for patients through education, informed consent, and shared decision‑making
  • Promoting a safe, respectful, and supportive clinical environment that upholds patient dignity, privacy, and wellbeing
  • Adhering to Infection Prevention and Control standards and safe clinical practices
  • Complying with organisational policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines
  • Monitoring patients pre‑, intra‑, and post‑procedure to ensure safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes
  • Administering medications, managing IV therapies, and assisting with diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures
  • Providing education to patients and families regarding post‑procedure care, recovery, and lifestyle modifications
  • Maintaining accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation in line with regulatory and professional standards

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
  • Demonstrated experience in critical care nursing
  • Previous experience within a cardiac ward environment
  • Visa sponsorship may be considered for exceptional international applicants with demonstrated extensive experience in cardiac care.
  • Critical Care Certificate (or currently working towards) – desirable but not essential
  • Strong clinical assessment, problem‑solving, and care coordination skills
  • Availability to work across a 24/7 rotating roster, including nights and weekends
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to maintain accurate clinical and assessment documentation

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.

When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville.
