TITLE: Nurse / Health Services

QUALIFICATIONS: RN DUTY DAYS: 226 days

REPORTS TO: Campus Principal / Asst. Supt. of Operations

JOB GOAL: To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district

student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of

health and well-being in the district schools.

PAY GRADE: Teacher's salary scale

FLSA: Exempt (RN)

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conducts or delegates school health service, including nurse assessments, immunizations, and tests for hearing and vision

1. Assumes responsibility for selection and referral of student in need of medical and dental care
2. Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters
3. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students
4. Maintains the Nurse's station in a orderly and organized fashion
5. Takes care sick students who are sent from the classrooms
6. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs
7. Is considered �on-call' throughout the school day
8. Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who hassuffered injury or emergency illness
9. Contacts parents of students who need to go home because of health issues
10. Participates with school staff in developing and implementing total school health program
11. Contacts homes of children referred by Campus Principal
12. Advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students
13. Attends IEP meetings when requested
14. Prepares and submits reports for the Campus Principal.
15. Authorizes exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagiousdiseases
16. Advises teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health defect
17. Assists school personnel and nurses in establishing sanitary conditions in schools
18. Attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health service an health curriculum
19. Participates in in-service training
20. Assists in planning of in-service training for both teachers and parents on health topics
21. Provides orientation to other staff members as required on minor medical issues
22. Develops with assistance of school health committee and administrators a school health program
23. Performs other duties as requested by the Campus Principal.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: Frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel
