TEMPORARY FULL-TIME REGISTERED NURSE - Saskatoon

Acadia Medical Association is seeking a Temporary Full-Time Registered Nurse. Reporting to the Family Physician, the RN will be responsible for patient-centered care, collaborative teamwork and comprehensive nursing support.

This position is part of a newly developed Innovation Fund between the Saskatchewan Government and medical clinics across Saskatchewan with the aim of improving patient access and quality care through team-based support, that will deliver better access to primary care in the province of Saskatchewan. This position is temporary until March 31, 2028, with the possibility of an extension.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide patient-centred, evidence-based nursing care in accordance with current clinical guidelines and professional standards.
  • Manage patient follow-up, including test results, treatment plans, and post-ER visit follow-up.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary health-care providers to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Perform medication reconciliation and medication reviews, ensuring accurate medication records.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date EMR documentation, including medications, allergies, lab results, diagnostics, and health profiles.
  • Provide case management for vulnerable and complex patient populations.
  • Coordinate referrals and access to Primary Health Care services and community resources.
  • Provide comprehensive chronic disease management, including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and depression.
  • Provide diabetes education and management, including blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, medication education, and foot assessments.
  • Monitor and manage hypertension and cardiovascular risk factors, including lifestyle and medication counselling.
  • Provide mental health screening, education, supportive counselling, and referrals as appropriate.
  • Provide sexual and reproductive health services, including contraception counselling, pregnancy testing, and authorized injections.
  • Perform cervical cancer screening/Pap tests and provide prenatal and postnatal follow-up within the authorized scope of practice.
  • Provide INR monitoring and anticoagulation management, including warfarin education and adjustments under approved protocols.
  • Support chronic non-cancer pain management, including opioid monitoring, assessment tools, documentation, and patient education.
  • Perform clinical procedures including IM/SC injections, wound care, dressing changes, and suture/staple removal.
  • Obtain and document vital signs and routine clinical assessments, including blood pressure and urine testing.
  • Communicate normal laboratory and diagnostic results to patients and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • Support patient scheduling shared medical appointments, laboratory reminders, and clinic flow.
  • Complete required clinical and administrative documentation, including referrals, forms, faxing, filing, and coordination of medication coverage programs.

Qualifications:

  • Current registration and good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
  • Completion of an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of primary care and chronic disease management (e.g. diabetes, hypertension, COPD, mental health)
  • Certified or eligible for RN Specialty Practices (e.g. INR management, STI treatment, PAP smears), as per CRNS guidelines and employer-approved protocols
  • Proficient in EMR systems (e.g. Accuro or equivalent), including documentation, lab review, and medication reconciliation
  • Strong clinical judgment, interpersonal communication, and ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
  • Proven ability to prioritize, manage caseloads, and maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • CPR certification (Basic Life Support – BLS)
  • Experience in community health, case management, or a Primary Health Care setting is considered an asset
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to evidence-based practices
