Job Description

Qualifications:

1. Registered nurse by Arkansas Board of Nursing
2. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation certified
3. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Instructor certification preferred
4. Minimum two years experience as a registered nurse
5. Possesses the ability to work with children; experience with children preferred.
6. Basic computer aptitude

Reports to:
Principal

Supervises:
    School licensed practical nurse, where applicable, in conjunction with the building administration

Terms of Employment:
    The contract length will be 187 days.

Evaluation:
    Based on local district policy and performed by the building principal who is assisted by the assistant principal in regard to evaluations.

Job Goal:
    The Registered Nurse will oversee the successful implementation of the school health care program in accordance with all applicable state and District guidelines.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
2. Oversees the duties of the licensed practical nurse, when applicable.
3. Supervises the administration of medications following state and District guidelines.
4. Maintains records related to student care.
5. Assists students with any health-related needs, including self-care needs such as hygiene, toileting, catheterization, blood glucose monitoring, nutrition, tube feeding, etc.
6. Oversees the training and supervision of paraprofessionals and other staff members who assist with student health-related needs
7. Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, and parents/guardians; resolves conflict in a professional manner.
8. Oversees the coordination of medical information among the parent, the school, and the medical provider.
9. Supervises a variety of student activities, including playground, cafeteria, bus loading and unloading, field trips, hallways, and other areas where students gather.
10. Maintains secure confidential records, information, and inquiries.
11. Evaluates student injuries, determines course of action, performs first aid.
12. Completes and maintains communication logs with staff and parents, if appropriate.
13. Participates in the development and implementation of health care plans.
14. Oversees the maintenance of the immunization program.
15. Coordinates and performs all screenings required by the Arkansas Board of Education.
16. Other duties, as assigned.
