The Salvation Army is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) services, offering withdrawal management, residential and non‑residential rehabilitation, and harm‑reduction programs. Our Geelong Withdrawal Unit provides a safe, supportive, trauma‑informed environment for individuals seeking to recover from addiction. Registered Nurses play a vital role in ensuring clients receive high‑quality clinical care, dignity, and compassionate support throughout their withdrawal journey.

About the role

As a Registered Nurse, this is your opportunity to deliver high‑quality nursing care to clients undergoing withdrawal, ensuring they feel supported, informed, and actively involved in their recovery. You will provide clinical observations, medication administration, admissions and discharges, and collaborate closely with AOD support staff and external services to ensure safe and effective care.

Reporting to the Nurse Team Leader, this is a Casual position, based on-site located in our Geelong Withdrawal Unit, based in Corio, VIC

Conditions

Compensation is in accordance with the Enterprise Agreement – Geelong Withdrawal Unit.

How you will make an impact

  • Deliver safe clinical care including medication administration, clinical observations, and responding to immediate medical needs
  • Support client engagement by welcoming clients, involving them in their treatment plan, and encouraging participation in the program
  • Manage admissions and discharges including documentation, observations, and transporting clients when required
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Police, Ambulance, AOD support staff, and other professionals
  • Maintain safety and compliance by identifying risks, reporting incidents, and following TSA WHS procedures

What you will bring

  • A Degree in Nursing and current Div 1 registration
  • Current AHPRA registration is essential
  • Cert IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs Competencies (CHCAOD 2C, 6B, 8C, 9C, 10A)
  • Experience in AOD service delivery, including managing challenging behaviours
  • Strong understanding of AOD issues, dual diagnosis, and trauma‑informed care
  • Ability to build respectful, professional relationships with clients and colleagues
  • A current Employee Working With Children Check, National Police Check, and Driver’s Licence

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.

When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville.
