Job Description
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the team.
Functions as an independent registered nurse clinician responsible for coordinating comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological patient care across the continuum of care. Performs triage activities, conducts initial obstetrical nurse intake appointments, completes patient assessments, coordinates diagnostic testing and follow-up care, communicates test results, and provides patient education and counseling. Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care while serving as a clinical resource for patients and staff. Supports efficient clinic operations, care coordination, and the delivery of safe, effective healthcare services to improve patient outcomes.
This position is primarily based out of the Norfolk office location, however travel will be required to all office locations and throughout all divisions to meet the department’s demands.
Responsibilities
Direct Patient Care and Clinical Support – 60%
- Facilitate patient care flow in the clinic while providing direct patient care for assigned provider(s).
- Assist providers in delivering high quality patient-centered care.
- Assess health education needs of patients and provide necessary instructions.
- Coordinate care for antepartum patients to include follow-up testing or procedures, scheduling, physician’s orders, and hospital admissions.
- Triage patients appropriately.
- Assist with in-office procedures.
- Assist in clinic with providers and clinical staff.
- Maintain clinical competency in areas of responsibility to ensure quality patient care.
- Assist with clinical inventory to include sterilization devices.
- Contribute to the well-being of patients by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating a professional, caring attitude and behavior toward co-workers, patients, and guests.
Care Coordination – 15%
- Coordinate follow-up care, testing, procedures, and hospital admissions for antepartum patients.
- Collect prior authorizations for prescriptions.
- Monitor task queues to support continuity of patient care.
Documentation, Compliance, and Health Information Management – 15%
- Actively participate in research through data collection and development of ideas.
- Orient new clinical staff, including signing off on clinical competencies.
- Promote the philosophy, goals, and objectives of EVMS, EVMS Medical Group, and the Department by becoming familiar with and complying with policies and procedures.
Operational Support & Organizational Responsibilities – 10%
- Attendance, as assigned, is essential to meeting required performance duties.
- Ability to travel to other assigned locations as needed based on the needs of the clinic.
- Complete other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
- Graduation from NLN Accredited School of Nursing with RN required.
- Must have a valid Virginia license as a Professional Registered Nurse.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or other appropriate CPR certification required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BSN preferred.
- Minimum one year experience with women’s health preferred.
