About the Opportunity
The Registered Nurse (RN) works under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor and/or Medical Director and functions as an active, collaborative member of Northeastern University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS). The RN provides nursing services for preventative health, urgent care, triage, immunization compliance, follow-up care, health education, and clinical support for undergraduate and graduate students.
This is a full-time position, 35 hours per week, typically scheduled over five days. Hours include one weekday evening.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provides telephone and walk-in triage for students with urgent and routine health concerns, using nursing assessments, established protocols, standing orders, and clinical judgment to determine appropriate next steps.
- Prepares students for clinical visits, completes check-in clinical support tasks, obtains and documents vital signs and other ordered parameters, and performs point-of-care and CLIA-waived testing as directed.
- Administers immunizations, medications, and therapeutic injections in accordance with approved protocols and supports Massachusetts immunization compliance workflows, including documentation and database review as assigned.
- Assist clinicians with procedures and treatments, including EKGs, ear lavage, suture removal, crutch fitting, specimen collection, and other clinical tasks within RN scope and UHCS protocols.
- Provides follow-up outreach after clinic visits, hospital transfers, emergency care, specialist visits, or abnormal test results, and supports scheduling or care coordination needs.
- Provides student-centered health education, self-care guidance, discharge instruction, procedure preparation and aftercare education, and support for navigating the health care system.
- Maintains a safe and well-prepared clinical environment through exam room turnover, supply stocking, inventory monitoring, vaccine storage monitoring, equipment checks, and adherence to infection control standards.
- Provides clinical support, guidance, and collaboration with Medical Assistants, LPNs, RNs, providers, and administrative colleagues to promote safe, efficient, inclusive, and coordinated student care.
- Participates in quality assurance activities, staff development, peer review, team meetings, student outreach activities, and development of educational materials for students and colleagues.
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required.
- Current Basic Life Support certification required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; equivalent RN experience may be considered.
- Minimum of three years of nursing experience preferred, ideally in ambulatory care, college health, urgent care, triage, primary care, pediatrics, adolescent/young adult health, or a fast-paced student-facing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Massachusetts immunization compliance requirements preferred.
- Experience with electronic health records, web-based systems, and Microsoft Office applications required.
- Demonstrated ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with domestic and international students and with a diverse interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to perform safely while managing sequential and simultaneous responsibilities in a busy outpatient clinical setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound clinical judgment, professionalism, punctuality, and a proactive approach to work responsibilities required.

Expected Hiring Range:
$76,335.00 - $107,823.75
With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
